Under rated in my opinion. But I can understand that its a bit difficult figuring out what to make and build with all the parts and next to no pictures of the different options. Out of everything the mechs should have gotten the old fashioned Putting it together pdf. Just started working on the arms. After the arms I will do the dreaded head. That will be a bit difficult I think. I'm just doing dirty graphics right now, I did not even bother taking the tabs off of them. When I'm done I will build a dozen or so mechs from the parts to show everyone what can be done with them. |

The things you guys do with SketchUp...amazing. I'd say I should just try harder and practice more, but I have too many hobbies as it is (models, minis, war/skirmish, RPGs, CCGs, MMORPGs, PCs, and all sorts of other acronyms I'm forgetting). |

Very nice. I had planed on doing this exact thing. But I don't have Red Sector yet. Once the SKU models are included with the sets this will make a fantastic design aid. |

That looks GREAT! I haven't started a mech yet as they look a bit confusing. The sketchups will help sorting out which pieces fold up into which shapes! Thanks! |

Exactly how are you doing this? I have Sketchup and Red Sector, but I have no idea where to start doing what you are doing. So I guess what I’m asking is, can you give a little tutorial on how to get the models into Sketchup and then the processes for making them 3D? |

You don't have to resize them into the model. If you draw the model correctly then there is no resizing to do. The mechs are just a special case due to the unusual dimensions. I normally save them as png so that there is no whites. If I'm tracing them (which is much more difficult in my opinion) then I import the picture and scale it exactly to the size it was saved in (normally 8.5x11) |

How large are your file sizes? I use jpeg textures because they're 1/8 the size of the png files. I've been working on a large model complete with interiors and a ground that is 38" x 36" and the whole file is less than 4 mb. |

1.9 MB so far. I honestly don't care how big the file is. The textures are dirty and can be redone later. I only care about getting the shapes down at the moment. |

Well I've decided to give red sector a go too, so I've begun work on a mech Sketchup model. Heres what I've got so far: I believe this set may well be among the most time consuming to do in sketchup. It has an enormous number of complex pieces in many color versions. Some of these pieces take more than an hour just to rip the textures. This is about 3 days work. The file is still under a megabyte though. |

Well I've got this whole mech parts set done. But since I can't distribute the textured version I went back a did a colored version.
