During my time "away" from the real world, I had some buddies come visit and play boardgames. Games like Carcassonne, Lord of the Rings, Shadows Over Camelot, and most recently Descent Into The Depths. It's a great Dungeon Crawl game that screams for some 3D walls.

Anyone else tried this? It plays similar to Doom: The Boardgame if ya didn't know.

My group and I are huge Fantasy Flight fans. I own all the "premium" boxed games. Descent is probably our fave right now with Runebound, Arkham Horror, and Doom falling in right behind.
I gotta say that 3d walls would make Descent unplayable. With the pieces as they are they wouldn't fit and moving them around would be a beast.

Runebound is a bunch of fun, and there's a bunch of expansions for it (haven't played them yet, tho).

I just played Settlers of Catan for the first time last night - what a blast! Have you guys seen the $400 special edition of the game that comes in a treasure chest? Thing's massive! (And no, I played the regular version! )

Old favorites that I have not played in a while:
Axis and Allies - Great game! But I am avoiding the collectible miniatures version like the plague (made easier by the fact that no local stores carry it at all).

Diplomacy - another game with no die rolls, and contrary to popular perception it can be won with no backstabbing!

The old Avalon Hill wargames (technically Diplomacy is one, but...) These are what led me to miniatures gaming, which led me to D&D, which led me here... I still remember the first time I played Napoleon's forces at Waterloo and crushed Wellington on the field.

Clue. Yes, everone has it, but I have often had a great deal of fun with that game. A 3D Boddy mansion might be a fun project for World Works stuff...

Starship Troopers - another Avalon Hill wargame... I have seen and drooled over the Mongoose version, but have not yet yielded to temptation.

Circus Imperium... Anti gravity racing chariots pulled by carnivorous beasts? Bring it on! (I still play BEN HVRT by Cheapass - a friend has used Arena Works to build a board, and it ended up HUGE! I use the Games Workshop Black Coach figure as my chariot...)

*EDIT* and Settlers is great fun, the first time I played it was against my friend Q and his wife and a few others, it was a slaughter of the innocents, Do not let Q's wife Amber get a port that matches her major export. Ever.

AH Starship Troopers rocked! I got it as a Christmas present in the late 70's and loved it. The limited number of turns added some great tension as you try to complete your mission and get your wounded back to the jump point. Also, the whole package was well done and followed Heinlein's book much more closely than the movie. Full body armor! I still have it. I just downloades some of the status sheets. Yep. Time to pull this puppy out for some play.

My games shipment came in yesturday(from Thoughthammer).

Man the DESCENT Box is H_U_G_E! The box is on scale with Twighlight Imperium 3rd Edition... WOW. And man does it look impressive. (Gift for my son)

I hadn't realised how big the box for Carcassone would be either... From the pictures it looked like a small (10"x6"x2"thick) it's actually quite a bit larger than that. I better go order the 1st expansion so I can put everything in the cloth bag for it. (Family game present)

Ticket to Ride (GOTY Edition) is absolutely beautiful.(Family game present)

Battlegrounds are the standard card size and packs.

Man is it going to be tough waiting another week to open these...
