Denny, have you considered doing a similar project in There? It is a similar environment, albeit a bit more structured. But people have created some very clever creations, and There lets you build any shape you can render with a 3D drawing program.

It is also free, assuming you don't want to buy Tbux (There's money), which naturally gives it a large population.

There (www.there.com) is a free social MMO. It features numerous islands, fun zones, racetracks, etc. where players can chat, create items and landscapes, etc. You can even build your own racetracks, provided you can pay the rent on a fun zone. They tend to be expensive.

i just got done checkingit out and althou it has potential it is just not my cup of tea. there is nothing to do . and building well lets just say it will cost ya LOL. again i ask if theere is any new on the SL WWG project ?? i am asking because i have been doing alot in SL and would love to see some of the stuf from her in there

I personally haven't had time to develop anything for Second Life. We've been too busy behind the scenes trying to crank out another flood of product.

Crifmer was suppose to be doing something in SL for WWG but I haven't heard from him in awhile. Second Life is a great concept but there certainly are some annoying elements to that reality. The frame-rate is pretty horrible in some areas which can make developing or even walking around a chore. I know it's all the rage to develop a "company presence" in Second Life and that's why I thought I would throw it out there and see what we might be able to do. Unfortunately for right now I have to concentrate on other aspects of the business.

Looks great so far Bizcut. I took a quick tour earlier today and it was a surreal experience. Matt will get a kick of walking into the Armoury from that perspective When I visited there were a couple squatters in one of the buildings trying on outfits...lol.

I have a few important questions for you before you take it too far:

* How are textures imported?
* Are other users able to steal or use those textures once they are in the game world?
* Can we set up a system to sell the textures?

Because WorldWorks is essentially all about texture work it is vital that we protect our intellectual property rights. If a user can come by Mayhem and rip all the textures for free and use them elsewhere in Second Life I may have issues with that. Actually, I do have major issues with that. We have to figure out a way to protect those resources.

i am glad you liked it denny. before i start answering questions i want you to know that as soon as i get off work i am jumping in SL and deleting the build. some of it has to do with information i have just learned.

1) i get them the same way alot of the kit bashers get the textures. photoshop. it took me a bit to find a good scale for it but when i did it looked great.then after saving the individual images i spend 10L to upload them ( that is 10 game dollars).

3) (yes i know it is out of order but wanted to answers this one before number 2) yes you can set up a way to sell the textures even whole buildings in game. it is very easy to do.

2)and this is the reason i am deleting the build. it is possible to steal the textures. THOU to do it you have to take a screenshot and photoshop it. just as if they wanted to take it from pics already on the site. for that reason i am going to delete the build.

i cant belive i didnt see it before that it was that easy to get textures. aside from that they would have to know the UUID (unique unit identifaction) to use the texture.

this build was completed by some one buildint the walls and i textured them. it is a great idea but texture security in SL (from wahat i have heard on secondkast) is not real good when people can just screen shot the stuff work it in a photo program and reupload. i cant belive i didnt see that before attempting the build.

Yes it is true, you can screenshooting everything in the internet and of course second life. In this case there is no protection.

But....

What quality would you get out of it? and is it realy usable later on?
of course an expert, who makes sure that the angel is right when he makes a screenshot and fixing everything up to get a low resolution texture with 72 dpi, could do it. But than he/she could make her own textures as well, much more fun.

Then there is no protection either against people who buy your stuff, scanning it in and putting the scans online later on. Or even selling it.

When you see some of your stuff in SL just call Linden Labs and tell them there is a breach of Ownership here. Im sure they would be happy to help out in this situation. after all... it would be bad for their business when they would allow something like this happening in their product. And they want to keep their paying customers happy.

after all...we are talking about Web 3.0... the revolution of the internet.

If you can see something on your computer monitor you can capture it. Nonetheless, why would anyone bother? Reconstructing the set from screenshots would be a lot of work, and it probably wouldn't look as good in the end.

well i have spent nearly 2K Linden on this project so far. not that that is alot in US ( only like 8 dollars) but still holding of spending anymore till i hear from denny on it.

I like the idea, but Second Life seems to be a very odd entity. This "game" is one of the primary reasons that the US government is currently looking at how they can charge taxes on all online game transactions. It's getting pretty messy, and makes me want to stay clear. Games companies like Blizzard (World of Warcraft, as if you didn't know) actively state that you are not allowed to sell virtual items for real world cash, and state that the items remain property of Blizzard and are just part of the virtual game, with no real world value. SL virtual items do have actual real world value and they encourage selling them... which does mean it should be taxed by someone. As I said, it's getting messy.

I don't know much about the game, but one possibility to limit land purchase/renting would be to create a Legoland style building. You wouldn't be able to see the textures in all their glory, but you could walk from room to room, going from a modern city, to a pirate cove, and then into a future town on Mars. Not sure if it's possible... but would be fun to explore.
