As many of you know we are about to officially launch Chunky Dungeons (our first pre-printed product). What I would like to know from all of you is which other modelsets you would most like to see in print...

Any chance of switching this poll to checkboxes, so we can pick several sets? I chose CWU because it will probably be one of the most generically useable sets, meaning it'll be easier to recuperate your higher fixed costs associated with a pre-printed set.

However, I think the Maiden is probably the set that would most *benefit* from a high-res pre-printed version, from the customer's point of view...

I just ordered the Chunky Print from www.rpg.net yesterday... I'm chomping at that bit right now!

From what has been teased about First Light, I'm seeing that as the next strong candidate for release. I missed Warhammer Quest and Space Hulk. One's being made up for, and the other, in the same print quality, would fulfill.. uhm.... gaming destiny!

Well, that was easy, I chose The Maiden.

Even thought already own a PDF copy, and have now printed up enough for 2 1/2 ships. (The one half is the only one complete, being part of a building...)

It is in my opinion the best of the World Works models, and can most benefit from high quality printing.

I am not sure that having choices for not-yet-released models is a good idea, since folks on this forum likely already own the existing sets and want something new. (Or in other words having the new sets come out in print a few weeks before the PDFs might be a good idea.)

Arena Works is my second choice, having enough right off the bat to create a good sized colloseum would have been a great thing a couple of months ago for me. Plus it is enough of a niche that buying just the one would be sufficent for most people.

Other choices, well, I use up an ever increasing amount of Interior Works, in particular Castles & Keeps. Gothic Realms is seeing some use as well, but usually with IW: C&K.

For stuff not yet released... I will wait and see.

The Auld Grump

I chose the CWU set, because it is the singularly most useful set, to the largest audience: historical gamers (napoleonics, ancients, medieval, and even WWII!), fantasy gamers, gothic gamers, etc... I agree with Auld Grump: it is dicey to vote for a set, sight-unseen. I almost voted for CW, because this set is SO SWEEEEEEETTT! But, this set is due for retirement(?) after the release of CWU, isn't it?... Anyway, I guess I would recommend CWU, based on marketing tactics: it will appeal to the widest audience, across the entire mini's industry.

Have you pursued a product review, for any of the sets thus far produced, in Dragon Magazine? The current version of D&D is extremely miniatures oriented -- WWG products should all be reviewed by them, in order to promote their game, and their new mini's! I have their CD copy of issues #1-#250, and there are several castles reviewed in various issues. I had some of these issues in hard copy, and I almost had to replace a few, due to drooling problems ruining my copies!... Unfortunately, for me, the castles they reviewed were W-A-Y out of my price range... CW, & CWU, however, should be within the budgetary reach of nearly all gamers, the world over! You need to work on reviews/advertisements, more, Denny. Cheers!

I chose Castleworks simply because one preprinted set should be enough. With Interiorworks and Villageworks I'd most likely end up printing more than what came in the set, but with CW I doubt I'll ever need more than a small castle and trappings.

I chose the CWU set however I want to give my take on preprinted.

they sound wonderful but how much of the preprinted material will I be getting in a set. in chunky dungeons how many T intersections and such do I get. if any of you are like me you end up building enough for every inch of your dungeons (well if you are anal like me I guess ) I can reuse pieces of course but what if the CWU comes out and I get 4 towers in the set and the castle I just planned called for 6. then I would have to print out the other 2 towers and they would not be the same quality as the original 4 pre printed ones. am I just being picky?

No word yet on how much of each element will be included in the pre-printed CWU. We are somewhat limited to certain page counts to keep costs down. You have to remember that even if there isn’t enough to build your gargantuan dream castle that in the end it's still cheaper to buy pre-printed (once you consider printing from home ink and paper costs). About $35.00 for pre-printed versus burning ink, paper and your time for a potential $85.00. So in the case of CWU you may want to pick up additional copies if you need more walls and towers. And of course if you really need to print from home you get the backup CDROM as well.

Actually, the question of the "right amounts" of everything is the main reason I picked Maiden over CWU. A pre-configured package of Maiden pieces is far more likely to satisfy all the needs than a pre-configured Castle package. The very lack of modularity (without kitbashing) to the Maiden's overall design is exactly what lends itself to a pre-printed set.

So, looks like The Maiden and Castle Works Ultimate are in the lead where they belong. The next question is: When?

I'm hoping that the print turnaround will speed up for the next couple of projects. This is just an approximation but CWU should be in print by October if everything works out. The PDF version will be out this month. I'm hoping we can convert The Maiden for an October print release as well.

There is a rather exhaustive back and forth postproduction process we have to go through with each set. Basically the core Photoshop files need to be rearranged to optimize page space for our special 8.75 X 11.5-inch format. The files also need to be combed over for any CMYK processing issues (such as making sure some blacks are "pure" blacks). Then of course there is the actual physical production of the printed product which takes time and money. Long story short is that it's not simply a matter of converting the PDF's directly to print. There are a few steps we need to go through to get it there but we're getting better at it

I voted for the Maiden, just because it took me so long to print. Honestly, after buying supplies to print the Maiden I'd say I spent just as much as if I'd bought it pre-printed.

The biggest advantage for me would have been time.

Printing takes time and you usually have to be present while you're printing.

The disadvantage of pre-printed is "apparent cost". I know that I would not have picked up the Maiden if it would have cost $40. But I spent $40 on printing supplies and the PDF download. Plus my time which was significant. It's just psychological but it does affect my buying.
