I am giving up my internet for a while, moving and my roomate won't be ready for a few months, so I will be staying at the Y.

I won't be able to get on much, so if you wonder where I am, that's what's up.

A van took out the back supports of my apartment building earlier this month, everyone is being kicked out. Because I moved in more than 10 years ago both the security deposit and the last monh's rent together won't equal one month's rent at today's prices...

And if the proposed tax cap goes through my job is history. Not a good month at all, at all.

And it just go a little bit worse - when I asked the clerk at the Y what the rents were he neglected to mention a two week waiting list. This is for the Y! Geez! And I am a trifle old to be couch surfing.

Took a lok at the back of the building, and it is visibly sagging, so she really does need to fix it up. (Two areas of cieling fell down in the past two weeks as well, but I suspect water damage. This is the third time in as many years that I have had to deal with alling plaster. (My workplace was closed for the better paert of two months because of faulty building techniques that went unnoticed until a wall collapsed. Before that the ceiling there ollapsed following a record rainfall. Just my decade for damaged buildings I guess...)

And while the vote is Tuesday in regards to the tax cap they will be reviewing whether to let people know on Monday, before the election. (I am a paid volunteer with a social services nonprofit. If the city cuts funding, which seems likely, regardless of the tax cap, the all paid volunteers will be let go, and the staff further reduced. There is a reason I do not like Bush... the federal funds have been reduced to next to nothing, meanwhile our client base has tripled over the last four years.

First time online in a week - There is generally a line for the computers at the library, and I can only sheck it out at odd moments.

Found an apartment, and a roomie. I will be moving in this week. Then comes a brief wait for a phone. (The good news is my new roomate wants a cable modem, so soon I may have a much faster connection, and not risk tying up the phone lines.)

Keeping this short, an hour is only so long.

Hey Grump, when you get that cable modem, spend $40 and buy a router/firewall/switch. The D-Link604 or a LinkSYs product are both good and comparable. Don't buy the D-Link wireless, utter crap.

Anyway, the router doo-hickey will let you both share the connection and protect you from a bunch of bad stuff. Good investment.

I didn't have time to pass on my regrets or well wishes but like most I was rooting for you Auld Grump. Being Canadian and seeing mostly uncensored, un"American"patriotic news that isn't full or Bushes propaganda (and also seeing Farenheit 9/11 recently, and again tonight, although I think I'll lose my appetite if I have to see Bush "Carsalesman" the American Public again, oh ya he's doing it anyway, again!), I can really begin to feel for you.

Here's hoping that things improve down there. It's almost a sad day when I can look around the neighborhoods of Canada and see them as better and safer than the "free-est" country in the world, almost, not that our politicians aren't just as money grubbing and power hungry.

One of the ironies of being a citizen of the U.S. - our country has constitutionally mandated freedom of speech and practices censorship on a daily basis, while in Canada the Crown has the right to censor anything - but almost never does... (I live in Maine, and when the stars are right I can just get some Canadian stations, if I can hook up to a high enough antenna.)

For me this was a sad and confusing election on the national front. Locally things went much better, everyone I voted for won, even the Green (taking it away from a Democrat. Normally I would have voted for the Dem, but the State Senate had abolished the Green's former district in a move that smacked just a little to much of gerrymandering for my taste.) And of the two referendums I voted on both were defeated soundly, one good, one bad.( Tax cap and ruels against bear baiting both lost.)

I am officially back online either tonight after 5 or tomorrow morning after 9.

The problem remaining is that no matter how I add things up I end up about $500 short at the end of this month, moving, phone, electricity set up, lost days at work, and a really bad case of the flu, which I am still not quite over... expensive. Still, it is a lot better than things looked a few weeks ago. I just need to get a second job, so I can try to get ends to meet next month.

Packing up I kept finding stuff that I didn't even realize I still had. Programming manuals and software for the Commodore 64 and Amiga. SOme RPG stuff I helped write back in the early '80s for a company (long gone) called The Companions, figures I painted back in the '70s....

Went to the doctor this morning, and removing the post above. (In other words I lucked out,) I agree - wrong forums! I think it was the fact that it happened while I was at the keyboard here that made me mention it. I am leaving out a few details here, basically it boils down to 'it could have been very bad, but it wasn't.'.

So, I am on a light course of ampicillin and my cold (not flu, cold) is back to what it should have been. And as I wrote above having done with the coughing I felt much better immediately. I had been assuming a deep chest flu, and cheaping out on seeing the doctor. The biggest problem was that I couldn't seem to get a full breath. Now it is just the sniffles, which feels much better. (Sorry to keep hitting that point, but it made a world of difference.)
