I understand that feeling very well, Matt, but one day you’ll come to see that as an artist you have a special bus of your own to catch, and you already have the necessary fare. You can create, Matt, original work in a style of your own. There is no artist that can hope to achieve more. Success is knowing that, and not knowing it is the only thing that can hold you back. Its the only thing that keeps you chasing the wrong bus.

I do so apologize for being so very blunt, but I could tell by your tone (your post) what you were doing. I just wanted you to see you were already there! ... to take a good look at your work and appreciate how important the differences truly are between it and whomever’s work you would want to emulate. That difference is your own unique talent. It is something you could loose if you don’t come to understand it. You see, I have been there; I have made that mistake to the point it extinguished a very important light within me. Trust me, you don’t want to years down the road look at your early work and see the creativity and uniqueness there replaced by a form of mimicry later. It takes a very long time to get over that.

Soooo ... I want you to take the police chief or any of the other figures you have created and feel it when you say, “Damn, I impress the hell out of myself!”, and enjoy a well deserved laugh at having chased that bus for so long. Because you have arrived, Matt. Keep up the good work.

You have nothing to lose by contacting Sally at Hasslefree. If you would prefer someone else to e-mail her and 'suggest' she take a look at your stuff, as a regular on the Forum of Doom and customer of hers and Kevs I would have no problems in doing it.

I tell ya, it would be so great if we could get his figures. I hope he also creates a series that would go with Battlestations. Cripes, when he starts to sell them he is going to have a long list of requests. More work! But he's up to it

BTW, has anyone heard anything about a western model set maybe being sketched out for a future date???

I absolutely hope Matt goes ahead with getting his sculpts produced, and will definitely pick them up when that happens.

However, Matt is currently doing such an amazing job with terrain that I really want to see him continue with that as a primary focus. Obviously, this is a very selfish request, but so be it So far, I think Matt has done the sculpts as a sideline hobby, and I'd be happy if things stayed that way, only they also happened to be produced so we could buy them. If we started pestering Matt for certain miniatures or ranges of miniatures, and he were to listen, it would obviously take time away from his terrain design.

So, my suggestion/request, get those you have already done produced through the White Metal project at Hasslefree, but other than that, continue as you are

Look at the requests threads, I've read some stuff about hopeful future builds.

Truthfully, Desert type adobe and Western buildings are my favorites in "hard" building techniques, Just love carving siding and spackling foamcore way too much to do paper. The gaming club I'm in now has a guy who gets space shuttle tile foam, which makes the most beautiful Western buildings I've seen, by simple etching techniques. At RECON, people, including myself, thought the buildings were some new extremely light, very tough resin castings, even after closely observing them.

Of course, I love WWG's props so I would have to buy the kits for the props (I have to have detailed interiors!) So, I'd certainly welcome any sets. I've seen other card Western sets (may or may not have even downloaded a sample: I won't say from where ) and it is not, not good.

Yep, I bought some of that 'not so good set' of Western buildings ...never went back to pick up the rest. I landed here in WWG territory and haven't moved on. The quality is too good to miss. I have a real fascination for the police motorcycle in MPD ... reminds me of when ... nope, I'm not going to slide deeply into the past, but being carried in the arms of this motorcycle cop was like a dream come true! Ah, I was so young then ... loved the bike, loved his uniform ... what can I say?!! I was 10 years old.

For as second, I was getting a weird "John and Ponce" (from Chips) vibe, thought i was heading into gushy romantic kinda stuff here. This is a hobby about violent death and mayhem (hey, a pun, kinda) and the beauty of said carnage and destruction when you have good terrain and scenery!


I think we checked out the same, unmentionable Western terrain, Delta. They look, too "toylike" even though were in a toy like genre. Like something you'd punch out from the back of a cereal box to play the enclosed "Prize" game. When I see a WWG set, "Carboard" is NOT the first thought that pops in my head!!!

PS Their "Color Your Own" B&W buildings (of which my free sample was one) sounds like a good idea, let me tell you "Crayon texture" is NOT up to the standards of excellence we now expect!

Lets see now... desert types would indeed be cool. Western, Middle Eastern, etc. Right now, there are games that use Middle-East style building a lot and other non-paper companies are jumping all over it. The only paper ones I've seen are nice enough, but I'm spoilt by WWG and want their incredible textures and models.

Smokey, I'm getting the feeling that the 80's were your defining decade. Chips, Magnum P.I., Miami Vice... I loved that stuff too.

Your friend is pulling foam out of the Space Shuttle? So that's why there are so many complications. Darn scavengers! It'd probably be super expensive, but if you ever find a reasonable price for getting hold of that, without tearing it off a space shuttle, let me know...

Its tile foam that was extra, not the actual tiles. Its $100 for a 4x8' section, but thats 2" deep. He has a a guy slice them to 1/4" (I'd say its 5+ times stronger than foamcore at that width, scribes with a butterknife, and looks exactly like wood or brick when youir done. ) so you get enough to build, well, so many buildings that the cost per build is pennies. Wanna see pics of his Western Cities? (they were a huge hit at RECON). He built the entire table with the foam, and I just played an entire Bastogne battlefield he built.


NOTE: this isn't a thread about trying to push a product, this guy is an engineer, not in the hobby industry, and I have no idea how/where he gets his stuff.

The cool thing is, I get to game with that guy (he's on the right with moustache,) every other week! Incredible talent, and the best GM I've ever played with. He has a RPG "Dungeon Master" style, you tell him what you want to do, he explains what you have to do. I learned "Rapid Fire" in less than two turns from him! I'm on seesters' PC right now, but I'll post close ups later.


he's running a huge "Gutshot" game at next months con, with another great GM with similar board, so I'm hoping to stay alive in THAT game (very tough to make it through a "Gutshot" game).

Years ago I would have asked why on earth you had a reloading room in your offices. Now I know better ... they'll never get the guns out of the South no matter what laws they pass. We are always on the ready here.

I've been so busy I didn't even notice Mayhem PD go Gold! (I've got so used to Denny's 'ABC goes Gold' threads) So, a belated congrats on even more WWG goodness - though quite why we call it goodness I'm not sure, given that we use it to deliver maximum possible badness to the luckless players.
