I take it you haven't read many of the Books that take place between the movies?

To the Jedi it is beyond belief that the Clones could betray them, that is why they are so caught of guard. There are a number of books where it is talked about how the Clones in the begining unquestionalbly answer any Jedi Command, doesn't matter if your a Padawan, the instinct of the Clone Trooper is to take orders from them even if they are Kids. Back in E2, it is set up that a Jedi Sifo-Dyas Commissioned the Army, and the Kaminoans always thought that a Jedi would lead them, so they were orignally trained to obey the Jedi.
As the Years of the War progression the Jedi and Clones develop a deep bond (they allued to that with Obi and Commander Cody) and respect, there is suppossed to be an implecet trust between them. But it is all as Sidiuos has set up, so that there is an army ready to kill the Jedi. And some of them do fend them off for a Bit, Ki-Adi-mundi takes a few out, even that Kid Zett kills a few. But one of the biggest differences and why Sidiouse creates the Clone Army (becuase he controlled the Trade Federation army too) is the Clones are a HECK of a lot better than the droids, as good as Jedi No, but Shear Numbers can have an effect..., then when some one you trust suddenly turns on you there is a bit of a shock...

As to why Yoda is the only one to Sense it, He's Yoda one of the only two jedi to Survive... He is the Strongest Jedi (in the Force) on the council, Mace is the Best Swordsman... (notice he takes out Sidious the fight is over, he is about to end it, then, anakin betrays him) Yoda is the only one strongest in the Unifying Force to sense it. Afterward Yoda does tran Obi to better sense things (I felt a distrubance as if millions cried out in fear...)

Perhaps I should have been clearer. The ORIGINAL, UNALTERED films are canon for me. That's the problem. So much is either directly stated or implied in the originals that doesn't line up with the prequels that Lucas had to go back and make changes to them in super special addition to fix the more glaring continuity errors. I'm slowly, inexorably divorcing the two trilogies in my mind into seperate universes. Who knows, if I succeed I may even be able to enjoy the new trilogy in a way I hadn't before but it'll be tough to do.

And I agree, there's no way my perspective now compares to my perspective at ages 3, 5 and 8 but as an adult I appreciate the originals for different reasons.

As for Lucas himself, the very idea of altering the original films upsets me. I consider film to be an artform, like say, a painting. If you make changes you destroy some of what the original stands for, erasing some of the message it once carried. It loses focus and clarity and ultimately impact. That said, I don't mind the technical changes so much but felt they should have stopped with that.

I knew of most of the changes, but I've never seen them displayed with such clarity, much less all in one place.

However, I'm still curious what changes you felt were so movie-destroying that they overshadowed the many, many improvements to audio and visual quality.

For example; in ANH, is it just Greedo shooting first and the addition of the scene with Jabba?

Personally, I hate Greedo shooting first, I really do. It ruins what gave Han his hard edge.

And Jabba was animated horribly. But, still nice to see restored footage.

Let's see. Han and Jabba in ANH are terrible, as is all the extraneaous Tatooine slapstick. The Greedo scene has been mutliated, taking Han Solo down from "Badass" to just "Ass".The scene with the CGI Sandtroopers riding Dewbacks is terribly animated.Chaning the writing to aurubesh on the control panels was a good idea though. The addition of the scene with Biggs was okay but since they didn't include the earlier scene at Toshi station, it doesn't make complete sense.
In Empire, the addition of that girly scream ruins Luke's otherwise defiant stand against the dark side when he jumps. I prefer the original "Bring my shuttle" to the revised Vader dialogue when he leaves Bespin (although I approve of the added "getting there" footage). It makes Vader sound seriously pissed, now he just sounds like he's dictating to his secratary.I've not seen the DVDs but the rehashed Emperor hologram conversation seems trite. I like how they updated the hologram with McDermit (although the lighting is terrible!) but they shouldn't have changed the dialogue. Replacing Boba's dialogue with that hack they got for the prequels is tantamount to sacralige. Boba's a bounty hunter, whose to say he would have a throat injury, or smoke, or a hundred other reasons NOT to change something that was perfectly good on it's own?
In Jedi the redone Jabba stuff is again, awful. The vicious gangster is now a foppish idiot who employs clowns for entertainment instead of actual musicians. I don't like the additions to the sarlacc. In the original, when the tentacle grabs Lando's leg your reaction is "Holy crap! I didn't know it could do THAT!" but now the tentacles are up close and personal from frame 1 of the scene. The celebrations they added seemed overdone to me too, like all the Imperial troops everywhere in the galaxy would just go "Whoops! Our bad!" and abandon everything they've known up til now. Don't even get me started on swapping Shaw for Hayden as Anakin's ghost...
Basically, I have no objection to any changes made to correct technical errors or update wonky special effects. Unecessary changes however devalue the films on the whole.
I had heard from a friend that in the new DVDs the clip with Leia talking about her mom is cut out. I see no mention of it on this site, so I have to assume he's on crack. Anyone care to set the record straight?
