Since most of the questions I would have asked have been asked and answered, I'll toss in one that's more relevant to us more out there kitbashers. It is quite obvious that outside of props most of the builds I do are not something that represents original WW's build style design, ie: Castles & Keeps vs. Shatterdragon's Ultimate build (Denny named this one not me hehe ), Maiden vs. Maiden II (brigantine) or Longboat (two more of these coming btw ), Castleworks Ultimate vs. Modular Castle build, and just wait till you see my first delve into sci-fi, the two ships I'm working on atm are turning out real pretty, not the big one just yet.

And I'm just one of many off the wall kitbashers who rely strongly on textures, but don't exclusively use original WW's construction style though I do use very similiar techniques. Take Curte Voiles who does similar heavy alterations to original WW's design. Would either of our styles of builds be acceptable.

Just curious. Overall it sounds like a great idea, giving out an initiative to go out and show off WW's, not just out there but from the sounds of it, also on the site itself with the pics and writeup that are required (lol, they don't expect us just to do that for the crew to enjoy ).

Fanatic works better for me, though it's still not perfect. It may seem silly, but the name of the program is a very large factor... since it is a marketing tool, and will have an effect on how people percieve both WWG and WWG customers.

The real problem is that although a few of us who have responded to say we don't feel comfortable or don't like the term evangelist, you can bet there are lots more who didn't respond. And more to the point, even if we could focus on the dictionary usage of the word, the outside world would not.

Dictionaries really vary in their descriptions as well, and looking at the Oxford American dictionary in front of me:

e-van-gel-i-cal: 1 of or according to the teaching of the gospel or the Christina religion. 2 of the Protestant school maintaining that the doctrine of salvation by faith in the Atonement is the essence of the gospel,

e-van-ge-lism: 1 the preaching of the gospel. 2 zealous advocacy of a cause or doctrine

e-van-ge-list: 1 any of the writers of the four gospels. 2 a preacher of the gospel. 3 a lay person doing missionary work.

I'm probably opening a can of worms here, but I'll give an example. Lets say you had an anti-depressant pill that you were marketing. If you went by one of the dictionary definitions, the old usage of the word, you could say, "Try our pill, it'll make you gay!" but despite what some dictionaries say... you can certainly see the mixed perception the public might have of your product.

Would a rose by any other name smell so sweet? Technically, yes, but in peoples minds, not if it was called a doodoo, or a muckymuck

EDIT: To save confusion, the definition of the word gay I was referring to is, in the same dictionary: "1 lighthearted and carefree"

My American Classics Dictionary had your number 2 for e-van-ge-lism as the first one listed for Evangelist, but change zealous to Zealot.

in all seriousness, I went to http://www.thesaurus.com and didn't like the answers for evangelists but theres some good ones for .

I especially liked Enthusiast. But there are others that would fit. Extremist is good too, right up there with evangelist (at least according to Mr. Oxford). Could you image if the program were called "World Works Games Extremists"? The FBI would be all over it. World Works, obviously means "Taking over the world is in the works" and "Extremists, well we all know what that means........."

Of course, WWG Nazi's has a nice ring to it. Pulling out 9mm Luger's and making people buy sets... or else Ah, but I digress. Fun as it is, I think a list of possible names should be presented to the Staff of WWG and they can vote on it.

I'm trying to think of stuff from the sets themselves that can be used. With the CWU, I was thinking "Crusaders" but I'm sure that most of the Muslim world would have issues with that.

Of course from mayhem there's the Pete fellow, but that speaks nothing of what WWG does.

I like Master Builders, but it probably would give the wrong impression since it'd imply that you have to be an expert to produce the terrain.

Erector is amusing.

Bridge monkey has monkey in the title so of course it gets my vote.

I do think that creators, constructors, builders, etc. is on the right path.

It'd be interesting to get Denny's views on this.

Herald sounded good until CCotD countered it... now I'm not sure.

Although, I think of a herald more in terms of an announcer, like if you were about to perform on stage, or your fashion collection was about to be revealed... and you would need a herald every time you presented whatever you were showing. In that way, a herald works fine for WWG. You go out into the world and present the models to people. You wouldn't be doing it every day, and almost guaranteed, the next time you show it, you will have new models... so you are always showing something new.

CCotD also has good arguements to support Master Builder.

Both terms are a lot better than the original.

Arabin has the idea I had in mind for Herald. It's "someone who goes forth and announces" approach. You're introducing WorldWorks to the populace, saying "here is something you ought to take a look at!"

Master Builder is a good title, but I really don't think it fits the bill, as it has two problems to my point of view. For one, I too feel that it implies that you must be an expert to be able to build stuff. My other concern is that it isn't addressing what you're doing (showing off WWG and convincing other people to take an interest). Yes, it's "building" a fanbase, but Master Builder seems to be more a focus on the actual building.

In fact...isn't that already a term we're using for people who have their user builds featured?

OMG I have clients like this. Someone has a good idea and then it gets bogged down in a debate about what to call it. - You guys crack me up.

I think it is a great idea encouraging people to promote (aka pimp) WWG. I'd just suggest not getting too prescriptive about it: we want people to be promoting WWG not haggling over whether or not they qualify for a free kit - I've seen too many people turn from advocate to bad mouth when they didn't quite qualify for something. Hmmm, on the other hand maybe we need to be very specific for the very same reasons ... Aarrgh ... I can hear the forum lawyers starting to circle already

How's this for a variation?
Denny gives away a free kit each month to whoever he thinks deserves it due to their promotion of WWG, however that is done.
He can always give away extra kits in a month if circumstances warrant it - and, if nothing stands out one month, then he can always either not give away a free kit that month, or give one to someone who has been a long term promoter of WWG. No destructive arguments; the kit becomes a bonus not an expectation; and everything is done all friendly like - sounds like the WWG culture to me

The people that really kick butt promoting WWG (again, I do it anyway, and so does just about everyone here as far as I've seen on TMP or other boards) should get a nice T-shirt. If I could have a WWG T-shirt (and consdidering the nature of their business it should be one Hell of a nice looking T) for cost (cost, not $22 or something), I would feel very good and honored. I admit, free kits sound so good, but really, WWG's products are extremely inexpensive considering the use you get ( I pay over a hundred dollars a year to the Miami Hurricane Message Boards just to have the honor of getting threatened, verbally abused and "banned" for weeks at a time (but I do get to threaten bodily harm on others, especially University of Florida and U of Washington alumni). Really, a "free" kit wouldn't make much difference to me. Its more like time to build set kit, time to download, and when is my Uncle/boss visiting me again and taking me to Staples for Ink/cardstock??? Whatever they decide, fine. I do think they if they come up with a T shirt that rivals their product, I'm wearing it on dates

You can always make your own WWG t-shirt using print-on t-shirt transfers, or taking the image you want to a shop that will print the t-shirt for you.

Guys, just promote the stuff because it's top quality and we love it anyway. If you have to be bribed with rewards it detracts from the fun and cuts into Denny's already slim margins.

It sounds like a great idea as it seems there are some very talented people on this forum that excel at making awesome terrain from WWG and promote it.

It is awesome to see people this passionate about a part of the gaming industry.


I kind of like Pimp but it does have a lot of negativity about the name.


I think the T shirt thing would be cool with a neat WWG slogan for the winner.

Free kits or no free kits makes no difference to me. Now, I'm not rolling in the dough, but I think the WWG prices are more than reasonable, and considering the work put into them, I don't mind paying what I consider to be less than half of what I would expect.

Getting recognition in some way is what I would think matters for the true WWG Promotional Enthusiast of World Building Prowess (or Cardboard Pimp or whatever the name ends up being). If the recognition comes in the form of a free kit, a piece of swag or - as was mentioned earlier - your name included in a future kit somehow, probably matters less. Even just "thanks, that was awesome of you" is pretty cool.
