Ok...rather than sending all of our Sketchup files hodge-podge in different scales, we need to establish some geometry guidelines for submission. I think this will help WWG get these files up for download that much faster. So here's my thoughts:

1. Scale: 1"= 1". We're all modellers and from posts over the past couple of years we all want to use these items to preplan layouts in 3 dimensions. This makes sense as all of the PDF's are measured in inches and we build in inches.

2. Textures at 72dpi grayscale. This is easy to do in photoshop (sorry I can't speak for GIMP). If WWG wants to watermark them, they Denny and the crew and can always go back and edit the textures.

3. In the email you send Aubrey, make sure you state the following:
-Set pieces are modelled from (Shellendrak, UM:Streets of Mayhem, CaveWorks, kitbash, etc)
-a list of the pieces that you are including. (3,6", and 9" wall section; pit trap floor tile). THat way they can keep a running checklist of what is done and not done.

- Your name so they can give you credit!


ANyhow, do these guidelines meet with general approval or is there something else we'd like to see? My main goal here is to try to get us some standardization so we can minimize the time WWG has to spend tweaking our individual efforts....thereby speeding up the time it takes to get these compiled and ready for us to share.

Well my preferance is for color and not grayscale. This preference is reinforced by the fact that for some reason my computer won't let me make them grayscale.

72 dpi is fine. But if watermarking is going to be done it should be done before the SKU bashes are submitted. As it would take a long time to watermark each individual texture and then repaint it to the model. Frankly I think that would waste too much of some ww designers time.

And considering the possibility that the sku models would be bundled with the pdf files, and a new download given to those who have already made purchases. I think that the 1" scale, 72 dpi color setting is a sufficent standard.

I do agree with the set and part labeling.

Dang nambit! I just realized that all my textures are at 96 dpi. Does anyone know how to reduce the dpi of a texture using Gimp? Thanks for your help.

My file types for textures are .jpeg and each model is saved as a component. Also, I organized everything into one folder, with subfolders in it. For example, I made the Gothic Realms set in one folder and then a folder for the masterboard, props, walls, etc. Each model is a component and the textures are at 72 dpi.

How many individual pieces are there for gothic realms?

What is the file size of one of the individual pieces?

In villageworks my pieces ranged from 50-150kb. Even things like the waterwheel or well where there were a large number of textured faces.

Unless it has many times more pieces than village works there has to be some issue with the textures. All of my large sku models are approx. 5mb. Even if I've added video scenes. Textures are the only thing I've heard of that could make that big a difference.

jpeg is a lossy format. You get smaller file sizes by sacrificing quality (the "compression ratio"). I suspect that this is what is different in each case.

just found this post, so do we have a list of what people are working on? I don't want to double up any work that's already being carried out.

I've finished villageworks, and done a large shellendrak layout. But footprint models have to be largerly scratch build so I don't know if the shellendrak one should be counted. Although I have finished a 72 dpi precut texture library for it.

I done some work on both CWU and the Maiden. But both are far from complete. And I'm not sure I can do the maiden at all.

Has anyone been able to apply textures correctly to the front hull?

I've also been working on Pubs and Inns. Because of the nature of the set I've been doing the larger props as well. Its likely I'll end up doing most all the props in the end.

Has anyone seen yet? It looks like this will make it so that anyone can print models created with Sketch-Up. I don't know if this would be a positive or negative addition for WWG.
