By the way, the redone sneak preview pics looks a *lot* better!

The siege engines just don't look right... it's not that they are too fantasy-like, but they are not believable.

That is of course just my gut-feeling... but I took out some books out of my bookshelf and compared the pictures (both, historical accurate reconstructions and fictional ones) to Paul's designs... they just don't give the right impression for me.

As for the toy effect of hurling objects:
that nice for playing with my son - but I seriously doubt that any wargamer or RPG gamemaster would like this option in the long run. Imagine the following:

"Whhhhhooosss! Hit the wall, wall... now my brave troops will enter the castle..."

"Ahem. Sorry but the wall takes 150 Hit Points per yard - your average bould only does 30 HP damage....and besides you haven't got the siege engine skill at all. It can't be used untrained"

"But I have this kewl catapult..."

"Actually it is called a Trebuchet."

"... anyway. I hit."


My point is, that the outcome of a siege will be covered -
should be covered bye rule not by your abbility use a toy.

I#d rather see Siegeworks as a small, more conservative release than as a big flashing set of gadgets.

Anyway how often do we actually use siege eingines? Im my whole gaming career I used them 4 times (not counting the one occasion when one Ravnos vampire seduced the commander of a french trebuchet to stop the siege of an allies castle)... its probably to much of a niche product in a niche market.

Paul and I are in serious talks regarding the direction of this model set. We are rethinking some elements based on the discussions here. We want to make you guys happy damnit!

We'll get back to you when we have something more substantial...

All I can say about the subject is....it would be great to see additional models of greater 'realism' and satisfying the scale requests that have been issued...but please don't dump existing, already completed, excessively cool "working" models. I'd far rather see more rather than instead.

(this from the guy who, as a product tester, already has his "working" catapult and trebuchet)

Well, back to the old drawing board. This set will be delayed several weeks.

Pall - keep up the good work, and I hope you're not too discouraged. It always sucks when you get criticism (no matter how constructive) about something you're poured a lot of time and energy into. Just keep on keepin' on; your work to-date has been excellent, and I don't anticipate that changing anytime soon.

I haven't mentioned anything yet on either front (good or bad). I'm looking forward to seeing whatever set you guys put out. So far, all the sets have had stuff that have thrilled me and some stuff I won't use much, if at all (well, except Maiden, buts its an entire integrated model, so it doesn't count). I like the idea of working models, but I also like the idea of them fitting into the D20 system that our gaming group uses. Is it possible to do both?

for the record, I love your work paul. I just would have no interest in the track you were on.

It's all good. Paul and I have been discussing options and he's taking a couple of weeks to retune things. Basically the working elements are staying in the set but we are expanding the scope of the set in other areas. The end product will be better for it Paul does great work and I have no doubt that you guys will enjoy what he's been working on in the end.
