Far more important than the 4 out of 10 who will use 1.5" scale - and ultimately, what I suspect that Grump was driving at, whether you care to acknowledge it or not - is the 6 out of 10 who won't use 1.5" scale. Excluding 60% of your core customers isn't a good strategy when you're trying to run a small business.

And while I suspect that many who are pure 1 inchers would buy select products that are 1.5" only (such as Chunky Dungeons), I wouldn't count on it to be a regular thing. Expecting 60% of your audience to purchase something that doesn't really work for them can be a dangerous proposition; it might work some of the time, especially in the case of Chunky Dungeons, which added new and vastly improved masterboard features, but if it becomes a regular thing, it will stop working.

I don't recall Denny ever suggesting he was considering going with 1.5" INSTEAD of 1" scale, not sure where you got that idea. Obviously by pointing out that 4 out of 10 use 1.5" scale, I am by default "acknowledging" that 6 out of 10 do not. Personally, I don't think either should be excluded, but of course Denny will make the best business decision for him.

Sure the creation time would be longer and cost higher, but I would pay them. Denny's stuff is worth it!

Longer wait time between sets could be filled with smaller releases (prop. terrain, tile, wall packs - or 'booster' packs if you will).

Personally, I don't see this poll as trying to pick between 1" or 1.5" I suspect the right thing for WWG is to ALWAYS support 1" scale.

The question then is, is it worth the extra effort to include 1.5" support.

The key to that answer is to know how many people use 1.5" and how many people don't. The don't side simply sets up the scale of the response.

That gives us something to compare those who do, versus those who don't.

With the 40/60 ratio for 1.5"/1" it seems pretty close. Not the near dessert of responses had it merely been Hisst Ka and myself. Based on those numbers, if I were driving WWG, I'd probably "try" to support 1.5" with grids and wall spacers to help, and that's it. I wouldn't do whole sets dedicated to the scale.

Spaceworks will NOT be a 1.5-inch set. The set is designed for 1-inch specifically. There is really no point in designing Sci-fi for the 1.5-inch market at this time.

It is highly likely that the only other products supporting a 1.5-inch base size will be our modern sets (baring some major change in the industry). We will create a 1-inch, 1.5-inch hybrid on those sets like we did with CastleWorks Ultimate.

I notice that I only know for sure that one of those is 1.5"-only.
But, assuming you're correct on the numbers, that still means only 1/4 of them are ONLY 1.5". The other 75% are 1" (exclusively or optionally).
I think that says something.

And that the very top 3 are useable with 1".

I suspect Chunky Dungeons would have done as well, if not (very) slightly better in a 1" scale.

I have no problem with WW producing dual scale, but I simply am not going to purchase any in a 1.5" exclusive scale. This was the only reason I didn't purchase CD.

Though it sounds like the modern sets are going to be either 1.5" only or dual 1.5" and 1" releases. I don't have much of a problem with that, as I don't have any modern terrain that it would be incompatable with. And since I won't be mixing bits from the modern sets with my other WW terrain this will mean that there are no problems. (Conversely I also don't currently run any modern games where I use minis...)

It was actually the 'chunky' or solid appearance aspect that I was aiming at.

And since Denny has mentioned a Dungeon Works Ultimate sometime down the line (2005? 2006?) there is likely going to be a 1" scale 'Chunky Dungeon' styele set.

First off, I'd like to say hello to everyone. I'm actually relatively new to this site and what it has to offer--which is a lot BTW. I've skimmed over the posts for the 1" vs 1.5" scale and thought I would put in another $.02.

I've bought all of the Urban Mayhem sets and a couple of kitbashes, mostly because I think they look cool and because my son and I play Heroclix together. After all, superheroes and modern layouts go hand in hand. However, there are other sets that would go well together with the Heroclix game, or at least have parts that do.

When I think about why I chose the Modern sets, I must admit that the scale options (1", 1.5", or gridless) were not the primary factor. Instead, it was simply because they looked frickin' cool. Plain and simple. And after finishing my current project (which will have a total of 28 base tiles connected using the PaperLinX pieces), I have plans on buying some of the SciFi sets.

Now that being said, does the scale matter? Yes and No. Let me explain the Yes first. I would like ALL of the sets to have all three scale options--I do play more that one game system afterall and I am creative enough to mix and match the sets (and its so much fun to do)--and I would like the option of choosing. Simply, it makes things easier for me as a player and more satisfied with my purchases as a customer.

But I must admit, I can work around not having 1.5" scale if that is what the artists (and I do mean artists) want to eliminate. Why? Because no game is perfectly realistic, and besides, I feel it is safe to say that we play with miniatures, primarily, because of how they look and how that look makes the game more exciting (and believe me it is exciting when other players come to play at your table and go "wow, that's an awesome set up"). Besides, if I wanted to scale to be perfect, I'd design and build it myself, and while that is a very enjoyable hobby as well, the whole point of my buying for World Works it that is saves me time and looks good.

So the moral of this long-winded post is this: If I had my choice, I would vote for all of the sets to have the option of printing the tiles, roofs, where ever it mattered with 1", 1.5", or no grid. It would make me a happier customer. NOTE: The buildings/bridges/tiles do not have to change scale for the paper models to work, just the "grid" that players work with to determine "ranges" for movement, shooting, whatever. However, I appriciate those things that I enjoy, and the folks here at World Works Games have my support either way.
