Wow, was busy over the weekend, and missed the whole Dr. Who stuff... wow, that is a geeky site... still trying to find the Show here in America...

Don't hold your breath on anyone in the US seeing it on TV anytime soon. There hasn't been any sort of announcement on when or even if the new series will be broadcast here at all. The Sci Fi Channel turned it down, so I'm assuming they're shopping it around still. Canada gets it a week or so behind the UK, on CBC.

That's why I've been downloading them to watch them. They get posted within a couple of hours of broadcast, the quality is great, and I have a dvd player that plays ntsc and pal, as well as playing mpgs and divx/xvid avis. So the quality of the playback isn't effecting my opinion on the episodes.

Specifically, I thought "dalek" was cheesy. The whole combat scene where the dalek rolls into the warehouse area, and 20 troops surround it up on catwalk and along the walls wasn't believable. 1) The dalek had already proven invulnerable to gunfire. They were just trying more of the same. 2) The troops had no cover, they were just standing there. 3) They fired on the dalek from all sides, opening themselves up to considerable crossfire. I mean, one guy was standing about 4 feet from the dalek laying into it with automatic fire from an m16. Wouldn't you be a little concerned about ricochet?

And the females soldier on the stairs that told the others to go ahead and while she stood there with a pistol and tried to stop it. Again, they already knew that gunfire wouldn't stop it. Why would she go ahead and die right there for no reason, other than to try to add (shallow) dramatic suspense to the scene.

I didn't think the levitation effect really carried itself.

I thought the whole emotional dalek that kills itself was gay too... I just wasn't feeling it.

Having said that, I still enjoyed the episode. Maybe I was expecting more though. Still, adam is an interesting new companion. I was enjoying the rose / doctor dynamic but it will be interesting to see how a second companion adds to the whole mix. I'm looking forward to the next episode.

Liked the effects. I liked the con artist time traveller. Good to see that someone else is travelling in time. I liked the "scan for alien tech" joke. And the 'cell phone interference' joke. I felt the doctor was a little slow on the uptake of the nature of the gas mask manifestation caused by the alien. He's been around 900 years, and he didn't get it, yet I knew what was going on right awap It was also nice to see that (probably due to complaints from the viewers about spoiling the tension at the end of the episode) they moved the preview for the next episode until the end of the credits.
