Speaking of ways to recover data from a hard drive, if I remember correctly, Apple computers actually had this written down as a recovery method. You take the hard drive out of the computer, hold it 3 feet above a carpeted concrete floor and drop it.

Then you plug the drive into a computer, usually as a secondary drive, but not always, boot the computer and then as quickly as possible, remove all needed data from the hard drive.

Believe it or not, I actually did that a few times and it worked! Course, the drive would completely fail at some point soon afterward. I've even taken the cover off of a failed drive to watch the mechanism spin. This one had one of the drive heads scraping against the platter. You could see the grove getting worse as the drive spun.

Course, the computer wouldn't boot, but the drive would spin up to speed!

i think it only takes one time for a user to lose all their data in a crash...before they pony up the money for a backup external hard drive. i think its supposed to happen to everyone at some point.

Heh, it's funny how terms lose there meaning when used too often. All I can say is I'm really happy I've still not found a fantasy game that would make me desperately want Himmelveil... I have a hard enough time coping with a couple of day delay on modern releases...

Not necesarily Grump... it's just not currently being worked on. I guess it amounts to the same thing though. I think Himmelveil is becomming something of myth and legend. Some people swear it exists, while other think it just a fanciful tale.
