Hey gang, For those following along, Garden of the Stone Speakers has been a very long time in the making. It was one of those situations where we had good momentum at the start but we were essentially forced to refocus on other issues near the tail end of production. The good news is, we’ve found good footing again and Garden of the Stone Speakers is back on the production plate. The bad news of course is that you’ve had a long wait to endure up to this point (apologies to all). Ultimately, when we had the opportunity to refocus on Garden of the Stone Speakers we decided it would be best to retrofit the set to make use of our new modular gaming terrain system (launching over the next month or two). This system has been in development for 2 years; it standardizes all terrain sets and makes them cross compatible in a way that was impossible before. The biggest upside to the TerrainlinX system is that it offers extreme modular flexibility, so users aren’t locked into one static layout. Long story short, it didn’t make sense to us to release Garden of the Stone Speakers in an old format. The changes we are making now will both bring this product in line with other sets we are working on and offer the best possible value and flexibility to end consumers. There is one thing that really bothers me about some sets, including the last preview of the Garden ... the grass always looks like you are using a bump map for fur. It never looks natural. It looks like roughed up fur ... having the same look as my dogs fur when drying them off after a bath ... flufed and unrully ... but fur, not grass. Sorry, but I just had to ask you about this. The fur pattern is so glaringly there. Is it just me? Hmm ... could be, that is what I instantly see ... green fur. |

Sorry to double post, but I was wondering to myself why it just got to me today ... the grass, enough to finally mention it. Then it dawned on me why I reached the edge finally; it was grounds keeping day. I have been dreading that more every time and can hardly wait until the season is over. In short I had spent over six hours walking the grounds and directing the guys over every detail because they otherwise end up screwing up something in the planting beds, with triming, and a myrid of other things. So its been a day of grass, shrubs, trees, patios, walks, and what not. Sometimes, as beautiful as the grounds are, I wonder if I'll be able to keep going in the long run. I am so very tired yet it is hard to sleep. At least they won't be back for two weeks. |

While I don't disagree with you on the furry nature of the grass texture, I've always liked it. It seems like a design compromise to me - it forces three dimensionality onto a 2-D tile and creates an illusion of length of grass for those of us viewing it from an overhead angle when normally we look at it from closer to ground..in exchange for a uniform 'holy crap the wind is acting weird' pattern. Looking out at my own lawn, I'm thinking an attempt at overhead photorealism on it would be tan and green splotches differentiated by weeds.  Or lawn mower tracks.
