The main reason I choose to use 1" rather than 1.5" is to cram more useable gaming space onto the table.

When I was first working on converting Chunky Dungeons into MiniChunk (going from a pure 1.5" to a pure 1" set), I realized I could fit 266 squares onto a Chunky Dungeons ProMasterboard, and 600 squares onto a MiniChunk ProMasterboard!

That's a lot of saved space!

Granted, the Clix games don't take a whole ton of room to play, whereas quite a few of the 1" based games do.

Hah ha. I had forgotten the riot over CWU. Selective memory I guess. I suppose the increased gridspace for playable area is a solid argument. I will graciously go back to my hole before Auld Grump bites my typing fingers off.

I use transparencies with squares printed on them. I print the ground tiles with no squares and lay the transparencies on top of the tiles. Here's the site I used to create the grids:

Doing them at 1" on a 7 x 7 sheet is a breeze. If you use both scales then I would print the WWG tiles with the 1.5" and use a 1" overlay using a different line weight or color.

I go back and forth between no grid and 1" but I can't see the above being a problem.

O.K. Time too pipe up myself! I like them both do to the fact that I play both 1.5 and 1" so I would hate too see 1.5" go bye bye cuz the people that I got into WWG are 1.5" players so you could see the need for it . I use it for heroclixs but I use a different set of rule so I could also see the dilemma?!?! I myself could care less about the fact cuz I could simply kit-bash what I need. That's where one of the problems come in as some of the people on the forums don't have the skills or the money to spend on the proper programs to do it so that's where we come in at we should as builders and designers should keep it, do to the fact that some of the sells come from 1.5" users.

I'm using WWG stuff for heroclix, so the 1.5" scale is for me. Not to say that I can't kitbash/convert 1" stuff up to 1.5", but so far I have only bought the modern kits so no issues there.

I'm an MK Player, but i also use other minatures in 1" format for other games like d&d or DSA (Das Schwarze Auge <-- similar to D&D).
But honestly, i rather have a 1.5" board to be sure to be able to use it for all minatures, be it 1" or 1.5" sized minatures.

Wizkids is still developing heavily minatures with big bases. Just for other systems and not anymore MK. MK Players... well if they want MK stuff they look up Ebay and find about 130+ pages just for MK. MK Players still exist, they are just a bit quiet.

Seriously, Ebay is a big big market. You could figure out if either 1" or 1.5" is more liked outside of your worldworkgs circle.


Anyways, i like both formats, i just hope that 1.5" will be not removed from your projects.

Anyway, I am a very stanch supporter of 1" boards.

Unlike some, my first miniatures forray was not D&D and the Ral-Partha minis, but instead, the Games Workshop boardgames. When Advanced Heroquest came out, I was on my way to becoming a solid minis collector/dungeon boardgame enthusiast.

All the GW products I have use the standard 1" square sizing. I then started collecting the new D&D minis and they are all 1" format. On top of that, I took all my Mage Knight figures and CUT THEM OFF their bases and re-attached them to the GW 1" square bases.

Even more recently, Descent from Fantasy Flight Games came out and all their miniatures are 1" format.

Basically, everything I own BUT Heroclix are in the 1" format. We use a non-grid city to play Heroclix in, and use rulers (the ones that came in MechWarrior) to measure out movement.

So I'm voting purely for the 1" format. However, after having read this entire thread, I'd say that you should stick to the 1.5" format for the modern sets, since a lot of people seem to use their Heroclix in those sets.

I, too, am an insider on both FFG and WizKids production, and I know that Mage Knight is like on the back, back, back burner for future releases. So your crowd in the fantasy realm may be largely limited. You could release it in a 1" format to begin with, and then set someone to create a 1.5 set based on your work afterwards. Maybe a "resized release" that comes a few months after the 1" does.

I have to say it, though - my wife would kill me if I don't.
