Hey Steve, this may sound like a wierd question, but are you the only person working on this system?

I think that it is virtually impossible to completely design your own working system, all by yourself that is. Honestly, if it's just you, I think you should slam together a pdf of the base rules and post it in the private forum. I think the best way to put together something great is in collaboration with a ton of other creative people, and I think the WWG designers are all creative people. I don't mean you should completely hand your game over to everyone else, but I think a lot of great things could come from all of you guys' creative juices.

Actually, I think one person can come up with a core for a game, but I do agree, I think it's impossible to polish the diamond in the rough to really shine without the input of lots of playtesting. Lots. Lots and lots.

No matter how clever you think you are, turning your written rules over to strangers you will find they will interpret the rules differently than written, and twist things to work differently, and play the game in ways that you never anticipated, which requires you to modify your writing style, and possibly some core concepts.

I was a playtester for Sabertooth's 40K CCG. We met once a week at their offices, and played for 4 hours. We had 16 weeks to work out the kinks in a given set. And in virtually every single case, the cards we had on week one were NOT the cards that were finalized for production on week 16.

Some stuff was very minor, rewording the card text to be clearer, or changing a single stat slightly. But some stuff was major, including entire card mechanics being discarded, because they were either far to tricky to explain easily, or far too overpowering, etc.

So playtesting is the key to having a game wish as few "rough" spots as possible, with as few "subject to misuse" interpretations as possible, and with as elegant a system flow as possible. Which is why I'll continue to offer up my services
