Very nice idea, I was wondering if you were going to come out with another dice rolling related project. I'll definately be picking it up when it comes out.

I can't help but notice on the hit location chart that there is no opportunity for a junk shot...

How well do the random location cards work in reality?
Is it truly random where the die end up?
Or is it easy to influence the outcome?

I suppose it is easy to end up near the border, ending in shots on hands and feet more frequently than on the torso ?

I guess you could rearrange the body parts in an art package so the head / torso is more towards the edge. It'll look odd with the head over one side and the torso over the other but if the dice does favour the edge then these parts will be hit more.

Do want. The card drawer will be especially useful for me, with all those card props I hand out.

This will be perfect for rolling dice in Arkham Horror

I'm going to want this thing for the card drawers alone. I have so many board games that have mulitple stacks of cards on the board in slippery card protector sleeves that constantly get knocked around. Great!

can it be built without the drawers? Just to be sturdier...

does it need some foamcore or just cardstock?

ah i've forgot this.... the drawers are for "magic" card format or smaller?

i've just made 18 cards to keep track of the monster's hp for my D&D encounters^^

I think it's really usesful to use the plastic covers so i can use a washable marker and reuse them several times!

Static cards are good for conditions or event cards (but i don't like using fortune cards for D&D)

Good point Akmor, it'd be cool if there were some way to reduce the 'edge' bias; after all, the torso (center of mass, least mobile, largest surface area) is the most likely area to hit. Maybe use the custom bits to make a body parts wheel with multiple 'torso' sections? Or bash the body one to make the central torso section large? <--that wouldn't look nearly as good as the original though

I forgot to say this, but I love the drawers, they look great.

*edit: maybe use a marble or ball in the arena; then you could make dents in the inserts to slow / catch the ball, and make more in the torso area than in, say the hands or feet. Maybe even make the insert 3 or 4 layers thick and make holes in all but the bottom layers, then put the hole 'punch-outs' in the hole bottoms so the image is consistent.

Oh! Or bash the body insert to realign the separators, giving more edge area to areas more likely to get hit (torso & thighs) and less edge area to other body parts. It's above my skill level I think, but perhaps someone will want to take a crack at it.

*edit 2: Sorry if it sounds like I'm picking; I think Roll Arena is awesome. I'm just talking.

I'm sure it could be, but wood is much harder to fold, and sadly wood is not listed as a supported medium on my printer...

If I can get the dimensions of the box and the cards it would be helpful for me to decide wether this is a must buy or not. (not to mention price lol).

I personally am curious about how the dice will roll in cardstock dice box. cant wait to give you guys my money to find out.

I'm sold on getting this even if for a decorative display piece. My kids, I'm sure, would enjoy having one to store their dice in, store their power cards in, and have a rolling area that doesn't involve hunting under the table for stray dice.

Thanks for the enthusiasm gang! We're pretty happy with how things turned out. Chris and I turned this out in record time because of a new sweet workflow. The funniest thing about this Roll Arena is that the early prototype was hashed out in 2002! I was trying to apply it to a game system all this time (which is still happening actually) but decided to release a new system generic version for everyone to take advantage of.

To answer some specifics:

* The arena itself is 8"X8"

* The Cards are 3.5"X2.5"

* Each individual card chamber/holder (there are 3) is approx 3.75" X 2.62"

* Throwing dice into cardstock actually has some great properties. There's a very minor amount of spring which adds to random roll potential and its a bit slidy as well. You might think you have dice throwing mastery but its harder than it looks.

* Coming up with individualized uses for the arena is priority #1 with this thing. You can make it mean what ever the heck you want it to mean.

* Active hit location is FANTASTIC fun!

Oh and here's a snippet from the instructions. We'll be making the complete instruction set available here shortly...

Very nice Denny, thank you and Chris for bringing it out as game Generic, is see many uses for me and my system. Really like the damage placement skin. Then again the Eyeball is my favorite of the skins.
