If I'm not mistaken, "Almost There" = 2.13 "Soon" (or is it 2.14?)  So "Soon" is sooner than "Almost There", which means that soon there will be a "Soon" that is the official "Soon" - at which point we are no longer "Almost There".  cheers Bull |

I hate to throw a wrinkle in here but I just got a hold of some CERN grade neutrinos with faster than light capability. So in this case I'm using "Almost there" to replace the context of "Soon". |

I'm pretty sure this is how to properly calculate "soon": 1) You have to get it in your head that you HAVE to convert a non-tlx set completely into a tlx set. 2) You have to do something that involves a roof system of some sort. 3) You have to announce on the forums that you're going to do this, and get people to show interest. 4) You have to have a major hardware failure that sets you back to square 1. 5) You have to have a family crisis, or a work crisis, or both during the work. 6) You have to complete the kitbash, have it accepted and published. Once you're done, you need to calculate the time between the first person's post indicating interest in the kitbash, and your completion date. Voila! That's "soon"! I look forward to hearing people post their calculations. I, for one, am almost done with steps 1 through 5, and so I should be able to get back to working on step 6 "soon"... |

Personally I think the whole thing is actually a very large amount of disrespect to the customers and followers by the companies that use it all the time. Reaper minis being the company that totally made me loose all respect for companies that bandy the term around. I Honestly don't know why they do it, are they trying to be cute, playfull, What is the reason... To me it just shows a total lack of integrity. I would far rather have truthful, "we don't know", "we are working on it," "things have come up, and the project was pushed back" etc. over a totally meaningless attempt at being cute or funny. I have to say many times in the past Denny and crew at WWG (and Mel when he was solo) would be much more forthright and say that "well yeah life has been happening, and well things are just going slower than expected". While it tells you nothing it is a much more humanistic and real response than just a stock SOON tm. That response does not take anything and is in truth meaningless, and a copout answer. To me the fact that it is meaningless means the companies who use it don't care, so why should I care about them. I lost ALL respect for the people in charge of Reaper after spending a very short time on thier message boards, and seeing the term tossed out left right and center. It lost all respect for the company becuase of it's forum prescene, and a non answer of soon being such a stock answer for stuff that just never materlized. |

What about when their subjective view of soon is honestly what they believe? The term is so subjective that I agree that it has not much meaning unless you have personal knowledge of the utterer's use of the word, but, at least in the case of WWG, I do not think they are trying to push off inquiries with a nonanswer. Things may happen between the utterance of soon and now, but they really do not owe us an explanation. They could say nothing and then just spring the products on us. |

I can only speak for myself. Experience has learned that real life gets in the way all the time. Everytime I think I have a good idea of when I will be able to release a set, something gets in the way. Personally, I don’t dare using the term soon on these forums, because of the running gag that it has become. But the truth is that some projects take quite a bit of time to complete. Take the friar for example. I have been working on and off on it for over a year now. That’s a long time. Especially when you want to show people what you have done after you have made the first sample wall. At moments it really is a matter of fighting the urge to share the cool new stuff you are doing with everybody. And trust me, every time someone here says it is coming soon, it is because they honestly think that it won’t be long before the set is released. I understand what you say about giving the real reason why something is delayed. Again, I can only speak for myself, but I once had a teacher who was allergic or excuses. You can give any kind of reason why you didn’t make your deadline (even if it is self-imposed), but in the end all those reasons are just excuses. If you miss a deadline, you miss a deadline. If you don’t have anything to show, then you haven’t done anything. the reason why is not important. |
