An option from the poll we had some time back. I'm a bit meh that the lowest score gets done first (was hoping for caves), but the set is certain to be awesome, so no harm done, I guess

2 stars on the main page though - almost up to soonish!

I am down with any new content, especially something that can be used across multiple genres, which, if an ancient civ theme, would be fine.

Hmm, I most likely could use this content in my Serpent Skull campaign...I need more stuff for ruined cities!

Hmm... yeah, count me as slightly upset that the least-popular option from the poll is coming out first. Not even a whisper about any of the others. It would be one thing if we knew they were being worked on, but this was just progressing faster for unrelated reasons.

Well, look at it this way. The poll was just for interest and did not indicate any actual priority list per se. Also, any of the sets listed could have already been in production. Also, it probably depends on who is doing the work. Since it seems Matt is working on this, perhaps he just has the schedule for it whereas someone who might do the airship just does not have the time right now.

I assume all the sets will be released eventually, anyway.

Though it take us a thousand years... hopefully.

And in answer to the "Why?" question, it just struck me as something that'd been missing from our catalogue for far too long (by which I mean completely absent). Plus I've never seen anyone do anything quite like it.

Now let me psychically divine the next question... it's coming to me... yes, I can see it... "WHEN?"

I'll add something, completely unofficially. Customer polls are useful to gauge interest, but they're notoriously inaccurate. On various projects at various companies at various points in time I've done work based off customer feedback. You'd be surprised at how often customers swear vociferously at how much they want a given product/feature, only to have said product/feature completely flop when produced, because as it turns out, people didn't want it enough to actually pay for it.

I don't know if that factored into the decision making process here, but I always assume that customer polls are simply a point of data among many, not the primary decision point.

Pretty much exactly it. WWG isn't a one man shop, and that project list was always intended to be divvied up across the designers. Matt picked Pharaoh's Descent, Denny and I picked the airship as a joint project because we always have a blast collaborating, Denny picked the cave set, and so on.

Denny had to see to a giant pile of Terraclips work before he could start on the cave set, we had a hard time matching up schedules for the airship collaboration, and Matt happened to clear his list before we did, and doing Pharaoh's Descent now appealed to him. We're not about to tell Matt to hold off on it, because that'd just be silly.

Robby's also entirely correct. Polls don't really accurately reflect what people would be willing to pay for, they're just one data point of many that informs our release planning and project assignments. We try to look for the themes that have several corroborating data points that point towards a genuine interest on the part of the buying public, and we go with those where possible.

While I don't play Egyptain themed games, or even games in the deserts, and have no intention in buying this set, I could. Western themed games hold perhaps the least interest for me. Having said that I did buy several of the Deadlands sets. I didn't want to. But they had dirt roads, wooden floors, shingled roofs, how could I pass them up? Buildings tend to be my favorite parts of the game for me. Between the Friar and Thoumounts I thought I was in heaven. Then I see the Stables set start. I couldn't wait, had to buy something. lol

I love the use of the past tense in there. Sounds like things have been happening in those areas, yeah!

Denny did say that he's had a lot going on lately and that a ton of stuff is coming... soon. I can say I'm certainly looking forward to it.

I wouldn't read too much into the use of the past tense. The bit you quoted was just a simple description of the circumstances that initially delayed both projects.

Hmm.. hope this combines well with some other sets. This could be perfect for Pulp campaigning...

Promo photos are one of the very last things to happen before a release (since they necessitate having a complete set built and beta tested).

I'm actually pretty interested in this set. While I admit I don't know exactly what I'd do with it, I'd damn sure FIND a use for it. And Matt's stuff is always awesome.

In fact, it could possibly be useful for that globe-trotting "Rippers" Savage Worlds campaign I always tell myself I'm going to run.

Another thing to bear in mind, is that even though a lot of people may not have voted for Pharaoh's Descent, it's possible there was a lot of spoken interest in it. Remember that the poll thread included pages of people giving their opinions on everything, but the poll was only a "pick your favorite". I don't know if this was indeed the case or not, but it's worth mentioning.

I could have used it 4 years ago when I tried to run Rippers with my group. They didn't get it. Come on!

Like that quaint little Egyptian village (Pharaoh's Descent) just outside a western zombie town (Deadfall).

If I remember right there was an indie designer out there who put out a mini Egyptian themed set for free some years back containing a main pyramid, a small pyramid, and a couple of obelisks. Nice looking actually. Other parts for the set were planed for release but I guess the designer never got around to it for some reason. I can provide a name and a link to the set here if it's appropriate.
