I originally was going to have this on a different thread, but decided that it was off topic enough to get its own instead...

I have touted World Works numerous times on various boards, and goodness knows Mythmaker has as well, but I think people need to do a bit more to get World Works and PDFs in general to the publics attention. We need people touting the wonder of PDFs to the uninformed masses. For books they can go to the stores to see what is there, but roughly half the gamers I know don't do any shopping from their computers at all. (About 75% of them do have computers.) I tout a fair amount on E.N.World, but those are people who likely already know about PDFs in general and WW in particular.

The PDF market is itself limited - I know six other people who buy PDFs, and I am the one who got them started. This is out of more than thirty gamers. Even the person who bought World Works before I did had done so at my recommendation. Terrain is actually only one of the categories I purchase. While terrain is the largest single category for my buys it is still less than half of the total.

Putting up reviews on RPG sites would also help, especially with pictures. I don't have a camera, but I have linked back to pictures on the WW website, and while I don't think that a picture is worth a thousand words I do think that they are worth a round hundred. The ones on RPGNow are a start, but those are people who are already buying PDFs. Mythmaker has reviews up on Mortality.net and there are some up on E.N.World as well.

Giving models you have built with WW as presents can help, that is how two of my friends got started, I gave them finished models. The bottom of the models had the URL for RPGNow, and the World Works logo.

Giving PDFs as gifts is a bit more problematic - remember to purchase a separate copy of the product that you are giving away! Casual piracy is very widespread, with some people not even realizing that they are pirating. RPGNow does have a means to put money into an account, so you can give a 'gift certificate', which is not a bad way to get somebody's toes in the water - to spend it they will need to look around. Once Denny's store is going it will be a good way to bring in new customers.

Going to cons and using the terrain is one thing to do, though this year I am giving the local con a pass (too dang much Anime...not enough games)). Using the terrain at local gamestores will help once the CDs are available.

Anywho, just some thoughts.

The Auld Grump

I have 3 out of 4 of those. , no surprise on which one I skipped.

The PDF that sees the most frequent use in my game is Steam & Steel by E.N.Publishing. It was the first time I did the 'is it there yet? *Click!* thing. I may have been the first to download it.

Hot Pursuit by Adamant seems likely to see a lot of uses as well - I used it last week in my OGL Steampunk game, and there were people standing up and yelling at each other in character. A lot of fun.

Corsair also by Adamant is s set of ship rules. I have played some games with it, but have not yet used them in an RPG. Fun though.

Campaign Planners 1, 2, and 3 I use for nearly every game. I am biased however, my name is in the list of credits in numbers 2 and 3. As a result I got 2 and 3 for free.

The Auld Grump

Well, here's what I'll be doing to help pimp WWG and PDFs in general. .

It was supposed to be at the April event, but the guy who works at the gaming store that handles RPG events, where I'm doing the class won't be there on that Saturday. Since this is an RPG event of sorts, I've got to push the class back a month.

But, we're meeting at a different store April 9th and I'll make sure to take some models along with me that week. Including my Maiden kit-bash. So you see, we can get word out!

I'm also going to see if I can put some completed models out in a few of the stores in the area. They have display cases where they have minis and such and I'm pretty sure I can get them to put them in the case. Well, at least I can do it with 2 of the 3 stores I'm thinking of. The 3rd, I'm not sure about, but the worst they'll say is no.
