I'm partial to A and G |

E, F, and G have the edge in my estimation, it is a lot easier to balance thrust with a symetrical, or near symetrical, design. If forced to pick one I would select G - plenty of caro and storage space, twin escape pods, balanced thrust, dual engines for legs. I might add the areas between the engines on F to the same area on G. The Auld Grump *EDIT* Gods, I sound like a used starship salesman... |

My problem with F is the center of thrust. Kind of a boring thing, but I can't watch Star Trek: The Next Generation without thinking that the Enterprise ought to be tumbling end over end because of the placement of the impulse engines... This was not a problem with the original series - assuming massive warp engines the impulse drive is at the center of gravity. I prefer Babylon 5, does it show? A quick method is to trace a line between the center of the engine(s) and the prow of the ship. Do the two sides look roughly equal in size? If not, time to tinker. (F spins like a top.) The Auld Grump *EDIT* Depending on the mass of the forward spaces H is pretty well balanced as well. As is E. |

I am leaning toward H, but I like asymmetrical designs. |

How about a hybrid of F & G where you've got the symetric drive system of G, but a slightly asymetric interior design like F? |

I like G as well. But I'd wait for the FL Expansion too. |

Why wait? Despite what Andorax The Tease suggests, you're going to need the main FL set to do the majority of what you need anyway, right? Start building what you can now, and by the time you have that built and ready, the expansion should be available! then, all you have to do is finish up with the minor mods. Besides, if you've got stuff left over, just use them towards a 2nd ship! |
