Actually Chris, I think that might be the first time it's all really been laid out in one place (I'm not going back through posts to double check). I recall Denny inferring that WWG was potentially being bought, but never outright saying it. While we all knew Denny and the other employees had day jobs the timing of the video game syncing with the stall in new products led most of us to assume they were linked. It is good to know that the product we all loved wasn't abandoned for something else. Perhaps the most frustrating aspect is that I still check back every couple of weeks or so just so I can see if there's an excuse for me to give WWG more money. I still hold out hope that we'll see new life in WWG yet, I'll probably end up buying the rest of the catalog in time just because they're worth it. |

What would happen if those who can kit bash, or better, were set free to just make anything and everything they wished? Those who work at quality control could/would still keep a lid on things so as to insure the standards remain in place. Could you imagine the explosion in sets and add-ons? The catalog would mushroom. Could it be time for Denny to hand the reins to some up and coming business type who likes this brand of paper craft? I know there are more than a few around here that can do the design part. |

It would be stupid to buy this site, It is all available for free if you know where to look. Whoever buys it needs to do like the game co.'s used to, You have to have an decryption key to open the file. After three tries it self deletes. That way even if it is torrented, then it still cannot be used and the original key will or can be hidden in the file. At least that is my solution, Now if someone does this I get mine, Cash or free stuff. I felt guilty stealing so I bought what I wanted, And I have bought almost all of them. Hell do like rifftrax, Accept that it will happen and ask for donations to cure guilty consciences. I think once you buy something it is yours to do with as you please, Rather 1983 and copying tapes or 2013 and burning my mom a movie, What's mine is mine. But I will not steal. |

@mproteau: Hurray! I've missed your work output @xombygod: I don't even know where to begin to address your comment... if you're in favor of better file protection, fine. This is a small business and piracy - including sharing copies with others is BAD! Now, printing some parts for a friend to help them help you build something is one thing, but giving them a whole file is cheating the producers. If you know of someplace that is sharing the WWG output online for free (or worse, SELLING it!) you should send Denny & Co. a message letting them know who and where. |

I honestly don't agree with your logic about buying this place. If you wanted to get something for free, darn near anything digital is available if you look hard enough for it. So what they would be buying is the legal rights to do what they want with the back catalog, a prebuilt community of fans and the name/reputation that once was the leader in this market. As for your solution to piracy do you really think that would stop someone? You can always print out the pages and then scan them back in as PDFs if you wanted to share them. All you need is a good scanner and a desire to steal. Unless you want to prevent people from printing there is no way to get around that. That's the problem with most DRM, it often makes things painful for the honest people and can't really stop someone determined to steal it. |

I've never seen anyplace but here selling digital WWG stuff. And as for people printing it and using it, There is a difference between 4 people sharing one set, And a million people getting it. But I stand by my statement, If you buy something it is yours, I deal with this at my job, I have a Tattoo shop, Someone comes in and gets me to draw a custom tattoo, Who owns it? I own the original but anybody can copy it from the guys arm. I see all this file sharing like that. It all started over money, And it is still that. If an artist creates a product and sells it to a client, Can that client then copy it and sell it? I say Yes! The artist gave up ownership when he sold it, If he wanted to keep it so bad he should not have sold it. So if I ever see that Tattoo again can I sue the person with it? No once I do my job and agree to sell the art it is no longer mine, Hopefully someone will see it ask where it came from, And I get more business that way. I would pay someone to make a program that put a unique identifier on each set downloaded, Like the USMC logo on bdu's. That way when it is downloaded and put on a site. I could trace it back to the original buyer. But I reiterate, With all the bad and evil in this world to waste time on making Metallica and p-daddy more money is preposterous. Thank about it, In Colorado you can smoke weed, But cannot download an episode of star trek, In NC a 40y.o. can marry a 14 y.o. but is considered a bad person if he downloads Darwin. File sharing should not be illegal, And is only so, To make rich people richer, VIVA LA REVOLUCION (DIGITAL)!! |

Obviously the months of silence should significantly reduce the price. Note I said "once stood" not "stands for". But I stand by my statement, there is value to buying the company (probably at a rock bottom price) if you have plans to use the existing assets in creative new ways. (Like using the textures to support a pre printed board game) If not, well that's how small companies go. |

I have a rather large collection that I still have plenty of things that I want to buy in existing filestheir new to me even though they've been on there for years. I actually have an endless supply with my existing WWG collection because I taken all the doors windows and made separate files for them. made walls Interior exterior separate files files for floorsand ground cover so when I go to make a piece I no longer pick from a set I just put together the elements that will work for my set so I have endless combinations that I can build from yes it took time to save each piece into Photoshop and cut it up into separate elements but it is worth it. I have my own method of making terrain that allows me to store everything in a file folder viewtopic.php?f=93&t=12342 |

Its a shame really, I'm not a paper crafter really (looks neat, but no idea where to start, ie which glue is best, are robo cutters worth the investment) but I am a huge fan of terraclips and wound up getting four of each set made. Glad they got the Dungeon ones out before all this, but would have loved a wilderness/ village set or a western terraclips set. |

I was a backer, but I've completely lost track of the status of the project. I don't get emails at all about it, and the kickstarter project never appears updated to me. I hope I at least get to try the game out after it ships - it was a pretty expensive game for me!

IIRC, the forums set up for the game itself have more up to date information, but I have not hunted it down despite being a backer myself. |

Now now, everybody. The world isn't ending. Just 'cause that's the when the domain name is set to expire doesn't mean it WILL expire. I've been auto-renewing "proteau.net" for two decades now... No need to sound alarms. And Jaynz, there's nothing to give up on. Honestly, I can't believe people would still be thinking that Denny would be popping on and giving anyone good news (or any news for that matter). But, let's not be all gloom and doom. There's a lot of other material out there to work with - I backed several kickstarters this year, and filled in gaps in lots of other terrain makers' sets. I've spent a lot of my free time learning other modular systems, and find I still love TLX the best (even with the anchors and posts!) So, I'll be making TLX sets out of non-TLX sources, and continue to grow my collection. But, I'd strongly encourage also building from other people. I'll speak in code, so I don't offend the forum rules... The recent sets from the folks whose company rhymes with "Rat Wagon Flames" (wink wink) are pretty nice - I've printed and built a couple buildings - they all fold nearly flat, and come with interior floor plans for role playing indoors. I'm thinking of applying some of the same techniques to some "Rave Laugh Ham" models (wink wink) so they can fold flat, too. Both of them have textures that I'll migrate over to the TLX system. The recent "Lord Zsezse Works" (hey - you try rhyming Zsezse with something!) kickstarter is looking like it will have a ton of new material to work with. It's a big wide world - look into it all, and make the best of it! I've taken a breather from a WWG-centric world, though I still prefer the system to anything else I've tried. I'll try to continue to contribute for as long as I'm allowed! |
