The original expression is "Don't teach your grandmother to suck eggs". Culinary origins aside it is, as Aleph pointed out, basically telling people you already know X. A modern (and much less eloquent) equivelant would be "DUH!"

Waked and Awoke used to be slightly different in meaning, but have blended over the centuries. You waked your wife and now she has awoken to use them in their proper tenses. Or you woke your wfe, and now she is awake. Once upon a time the 'a' in awake was a separate worde and was sometimes prepresented as a' with the assumption that a silent 'N' was present. An I wake thee naught than shalle ye rest.

There are words that have changed meaning to their direct opposites, and jokes that have become the actual meaning of the word. Black really is white, though white is not black.

Noon was once 3:00 PM. There was a monastary that was so strict that the monks would eat no sup until the noon bell rang, but somehow the noon bell kept being rung a little early... Until the folks in the area started joking when the Sextam bell rang (12:00PM) that 'there goes the noon bell!' And the punchline has stuck around for centuries, the joke itself lost...
