Here's the spaceship I want to build -- Serenity from the 'Firefly' TV show.

YAY, WOW, that looks fantastic, stunningly beautiful, if this doesn't regenerate interest in the best Sci-Fi series I have ever seen and bring it back on the air, then nothing will (yes, yes, it even bumped Babylon 5 out of it's top spot in my favorite Sci-Fi series, which puts them in this order, #1 Firefly, #2 Babylon 5, #3 Farscape, #4 Doctor Who (new), #5 BattleStar Galactica (new)).
Unfortuneatly, too many people looked at it as just another space cowboy flick, and didn't even give it a chance, it's originality actually put Babylon 5's to shame, and Babylon 5 was one of the most original Sci-Fi series I had ever seen.

*Edit: Umm, where's Preacher and Kaylee? Did I miss something? Please tell me they plan on wrapping up the whole Preacher storyline.

*Edit #2: Nm, it took some searching through thier website but I found them both.

*Edit #3: If I considered Red Dwarf serious Sci-Fi, It would have been second on my list, and BattleStar Galactica would have been bumped from my top five list !

Oh, sweet! I kid you not: my good friend has been going off about Firefly all day, and I had never heard of it before! He's sitting across from me now, and we just watched the trailer, and he won't shut up about it.

Great stuff! I'll be watching the series soon (he rented the series, and will be buying it shortly), and he's basing a GURPS campaign around it. He would absolutely flip over a First Light ship based on the Serenity!

I caught Firefly on DVD and loved it! Looking forward to the movie.

#5 - Firefly (never ran long enough to get in my soul like the others)

Looks like Netflix has Firefly, so I'll be able to catch it before the movie comes out.

I have toyed with trying to make a Firefly class ship like Serenity using first light.

The DVD one of the bonus features on the last disc has a dececent "interior" lay out of the ship. they put the different sets in relation to each other and i think had some what detailed sketches (as a bacground, but you could still make things out). The problem, is... i'd want the hull as well, the insides only just woudln't cut it, and getting the rounded bits might be tricky...

One word: amazing.

I rather hope that a successful run at the box office will encourage a return to television. You'd think that Sci-Fi would pick it up...

As for whether or not it is rehashing covered material, I don't think so. I was pretty sure any film version would focus on the River saga.

I've tried to like Firefly but it's just not reaching me yet, which is odd because I was a big fan of Buffy in the latter seasons and of Angel throughout, so I'm well aware that Joss don't make crap. I think Firefly's television demise was due to a) FOX not knowing what they had and thus not marketting it properly and b) some other "space western" (who's name escapes me) coming on the air at roughly the same time (and dying off almost instantly) "tainting" the idea.

Personally, I could never get past the recycled props from Starship Troopers. For once, my real life knowledge (that of film production) interefered with my ability to enjoy something (but it still ain't a verisimilitude issue )!

I have found plans for the Serenity on a website I'll see if I can dig up where they came from.

I had mentioned a while back (right after FirstLight came out but before the addon hype) that it would be cool if Paul added the ability to make 2nd editions easy with Gantrys/Steps etc. to more easily recreate the Cargo area of Serenity.

Anyway, the movie looks great. It does look like they go over "how" they come across the good doctor and his sister.

But this show is unbelievably good. The writing and the acting are very good. And as stated above there is chemistry. The captains actions/reactions to situations are very interesting and well different than the usual "hollywood series". And who doesn't love JANE!

I am with everyone on the hopes that this movie will be to Firefly what the DVD releases for Family Guy were. A resurrection from obscurity to new life.

It looks like it's going to be a good movie. Course what I always hate about trailers, how much of that is really what's happening, and how much have they taken out of context as far as the story goes?

Like the part about the guy being unarmed!

Guess we'll find out when the movie comes out!
