I'm using a Lexmark X5150 (All in one). It's definatly got some banding issues but overall the quality is passable. I've owned a few incarnations of Epsons and the image is typically very good...BUT, the Lexmark is compatible with ink refill kits whereas Epson printers are "chipped" so that you cant refill them. Take my advice, things being as they are in the printer bizz with a new ink refill costing as much as a new printer, I say screw the warranty. I have never had problems with ink refill kits and I have already saved hundreds of dollars. One of your primary questions when hunting for a new printer should be "does it accept refill kits?". Once you get the hang of refilling you'll never go back and in this hobby refills will save you a ton of cash.

Mine's a cheapo Lexmark 1150 all-in-one, but - touch wood - it's fine. Sometimes - on really dense photo prints - you can see a little banding if you study, but on WW stuff it's OK.

I'm fearful of refill kits though, although commonsense (the little I have) tells me this is the way to go. Perhaps it's because I model so slowly that the cost doesn't seem too bad overall. If I was churning out stuff like you guys, especially the GMs, I would consider other options.

I do use plain-paper setting as advised by Denny in an earlier tute, and *normal* for print quality which is really good enough, much quicker, and uses much less ink. I use a good UK on-line provider (cartridges arrive next day delivery!) and they've only recently started to sell compatables for my particular printer, and they aren't much cheaper anyway!

Being totally non technical I do use the simple Lexmark on-screen app for all maintenance, cartridge changing and stuff, otherwise print straight from Adobe Reader, no probs and a good - if very slightly warm - match to the screen pic.

I hope you get sorted one way or another, Hisst. I'm very impatiant with any sort of computer hassle and I'd go nuts (well, nuttser) with your probs.
