Post subject: | Texture Mod for SWMins |
Looking at and seeing the SW Mini in play - very nice indeed - I was struck with the idea of having one of our Modders get the texture for the decking plate of FL and make it into a base to fit over the black disk. This would blend the mini into the scene that little bit better. I know there is a slight problem with posting textures from sets but this is a small 20mm(ish) disk. If it gets done maybe the person could run a "WorldWorksGames" in tiny writing around the edge of the disk, so if it does make it into the general population at least it would be marked and tagged. If you're not into the collectibility factor of the SW minis (which you might not be if you plan to glue it down permanently), here's another possibility: just cut each figure free from its black plastic base, and glue it to a circle (or square) of the texture that's been glued to a matching sized matboard piece. The matboard's thinner than foamcore, so it'll be sturdier, and lower to the table (and less like a Click base "pedistal"). Then, you don't have to worry about cutting the texture circle around the mini's feet/tail/tentacles. |

While I don't have any of the SW minis, I DO have darn near all of the DDM ones. And as I am also a painter ( or so I like to think) the plain black bases irked me and so I fixed many of them. Amazing what it can add to the mini. And while some stores didn't like it being done, most other players think they look great and have even had me do some of theirs in exchange for minis and such. Here is a link to some of the ones I have done. The cam I used was crap, so apologies for the slightly blurry/dark pics. Any questions on what I used or tricks, just ask! ![]() http://groups.msn.com/Mucapalooza/miniatures.msnw |

Nice basing! I like the use of the flock on the Evil Treant base especially. AFAIK, they didn't make it to 3rd Ed (yet), but it should be really easy to do a conversion. [edit] I do have a question, and I almost forgot to ask: what do you do to strip the paint from the D&D minis? |

Bayushi Shogo, I had a quick look at yours shot and that what sparked this thread - It wasn't till Mags said that you two had been mulling it over did I know anything about it. ![]() Lord Abaddon of Wormwood |
