| Post subject: | Paper, Metal, or Resin Furnishings? |
Just a quick question, and a poll to test the option out - do most people build paper furnishings such as those in the Interior Works series or do they purchase metal and resin? I do all three, with a preference toward resin, followed by metal, then paper. I like furnishings that are strong enough to put a figure on, and some (but not all) of the paper furnishings just aren't up to the task, plus I like painting 'em! It wasn't long after I first got into WWG products that I ditched nearly all the rest of my terrain. I think I have a few trees and a few rocks that aren't paper - otherwise, the rest of my terrain collection is exclusively paper, including all the interior props. |

Hmmm, I was not thinking about non-furniture terrain at all... Hills, forests, etc. I use everything in a grand confusion. (Though I will admit to not much liking the idea of paper trees, for that I go with Woodland Scenics... cutting down trees to make trees just seems counter intuitive!  )

I still use my 4 x 8 foot Bluefoam board for war games. Hills and trees just do not translate to paper well. The cliffs in Sea Works have replaced my Styrofoam and hotwire cutter creations though. I agree with Grump, if it wont support a mini I tend not to use it. |

For that matter, what companies do folks get resin and metal furnishings from? Some of my metals were made by Enigma (now out of business), others by Metal Magics (Out of business, but available from Discounthobby.com - one of my favorite companies to do business with). As for resins some are from Heartbreaker (also out of business), some by Grendel (still in business! and also available through Discount Hobby). The Auld Grump, no doubt I will think of others... |

I make most of mine, I get alot of compliments on my balsa wood funature. Though I use some of games workshops stuff. a bit of paper. I think my best pieces are my balsa wood roller top desk, and some beds that I use tissue soaked in glue to make covers with and pillows. Gives a very realistic cloth like appearance for the scale. |

I love WWG props. Alot of them can be made quite durable with some extra care. I come from a wargaming slant. Mostly GW (since that is what I was first introduced to in '90). So I've learned to build and make jsut about everything needed out of styrofoam, foamcore and wood. I did have a chance to purchase the props and artifact sets for MageKnight Dungeons and am thoroughly impressed with the plastic sets. Our gaming group is currently considering which set of Hirst Moulds to purchase and try our hand at that. (We all love to create and paint. It's jsut that time is less and less available to us. So we need to maximise the time we can afford to our favorite hobby!) -Floyd |

Everything in my collection for RPGs is paper. All of my wargaming terrain is the typical mix of styrofoam, dried/silk plants, painted plastic or metal bits, straws, etc. But for Roleplaying games, I enjoy having a ton of inexpensive paper props. Our main DM has a ton of Dwarven Forge stuff (furnishings are great, but heinously expensive), but we've mixed it with paper furnishings almost every time we use it. In fact, my only complaint with paper props is the stability of some of them; like the chairs. I wish there was an easier way to have solid chairs that don't fold under at the slightest touch. Maybe a simple cross-brace between the legs, to help retain the shape? Could be as easy as a small square of paper glued into place, or maybe an upside-down A-frame shape. Hmmm... |

Yikes...I like atmosphere pieces, but guys come on, make some of those references links, please? So slow to cut and paste all those names in the browser  . I like the metal, good weight, but painting, yuck. I like the resin, ok weight, but painting, yuck, Some of the plastic is usable, no painting, yay. The paper, now that is choice, no painting, variable textures (if one has ability with Paint programs, not I). Most furniture doesn't really need to support miniatures.

"Better grab them while you can Outlaw" < on my list now. I do like the looks of the Anisty items and they do show miniatures most of the time to gauge the size. |
