I second Master and Commander. In fact, I'm going to get a copy on DVD to use as reference. I've finished M&C the book (the first in the series) and am reading the second, Post Captain. They are quite good. (And great to get nautical phrases from - "all wool and no cry" or vice versa being my current favorite.) |

-The Cat Returns: For building the maze in the kingdom of cats, complete with the shifting wall sections, and the high tower. -Rumble in the Bronx: All kinds of modern brawl scenes can be found here, from car-filled alley to corner grocery store. -Castle of Cagliostro: Yet another Miyazaki. Chosen for the sunken city that's revealed at the end, and the castle itself was a huge, ancient stone one with many modern updates. -Howl's Moving Castle: Miyazaki again! Not for the castle itself, or even the flying machines, but the utterly charming cities and the royal palace (arboretum!). Yes, with all those stairs, too ![]() ...I watch too many cartoons. |

Heh, another Miyazaki - Kiki's Delivery Service, for that strange mix of European and Asian cities that give it such an odd atmosphere. (Plus it is a very fun movie.) The Auld Grump |

Saw King Kong tonight. Wow, just wow. Those natives weren't just restless, they were evil. Heck Jackson's own orcs wouldn't have wanted to mess with 'em! Kong himself... this is the first Kong that I have seen in a movie that I knew smelled bad, there are flies buzzing around him on the island. I also think that Kong was more than half crazy, and with that island there is no wonder as to why. Some aspects of the movie were downright Lovecraftian. I would love to see a World Works tramp steamer... The Auld Grump |

Yeah it's really tramp-y and takes quite a beating. Great Cthulu! Andy Serkis' death scene was hideous...... |

The Thing - if we had an ice set. Maybe I could just print off the rocks without any ink in the printer..... Aliens. And of course "Predator vs Cardboard Dungeon Man". Not a very well known movie but worth looking up. Just a heads up, Sword and the Sorceror was an excellent movie and I'll have fisticuffs with anyone who says otherwise. That 3 bladed sword was a true work of art. |
