I put together a pair of the canyons last night, and I have to say they are _very_ cool, or as B&T would say, most excellent! I really like the flexibility and modularity of the canyons; as usual, the new is taking WWG to yet another level.

Build Hint: Don't cut too close to the walls when trimming the top. Scissors (gasp!) are actually really good for the trimming task.


Now, after putting a few together, I do have a few suggestions going forward:

1) Make similar setups with other terrain types. Grassy & forested hills, desert, jungle, snow, etc. Heck, I'd buy Outdoors Works with nothing but the canyon files with various terrain textures.

2) Make the base tiles bigger: 7x10 perhaps. Put 3 canyons together, and it has a hard time fitting under one 7x7 tile. (Yes, I know you can glue multiples together, but then it isn't quite as stable.) A bigger tile means you can have bigger canyons.

3) Add supports for the shorter canyons, especially since they are the most likely to go on the bottom. A set of standard boxes matching the different heights would be really useful to glue underneath the canyons for added stability. Hmm. Maybe I'll just kitbash and submit these.

4) In the BIAT, I would show add a demo of creating corner canyons; that is, to make really big canyon pieces, square off one corner. Then you can put 4 pieces together (connected with bobby pins or whatever) to create a fairly stable, but large, canyon piece.


Again I say, great job Paul and Denny. Mars Station is another fantastic set.

I made a few as well, they build easily.

The two biggest are completely flat on one side, intended to either be butted together to create a plateau or to be on the edge of the gaming area. I also put internal struts to support the top and bottom, and am considering how to do a volcano with the canyon bits... (It may be possible to have a reversible piece, so that one way up it is a volcano, the other a plateau or butte.)

I think this system is about the best idea I have had so far. It follows the Skull Cove system...of couse SC had steps all over the place, which require a LOT of kitbashing in the new Canyon system. Tht's why I included stand-alone steps with a Canyon texture.
