I was thinking about trying to use the Hilltop Encounter grass tiles to create hills using Paul's MS canyon paradigm, when it hit me that I could make pretty cool Ice Canyons. A few tweaks in Paint Shop Pro, and you can see the results (a portion, and scaled down to avoid would-be texture theives).

Here is a sample of a 4" tall canyon wall:


Here is a sample of one of the ground tiles:



In PSP, I used a combination of these settings to get these colors:

1) Colors | Adjust | Hue/Saturation/Lightness - set Hue = 220, Saturation = 55 and Lightness = -5
2) Colors | Adjust | Brightness/Contract - set Brightness at = 4 and Contract = 15%

Based on the graphics tool you use, YMMV.



I should add that based on this, I might try doing desert/dunes style recoloring, and possibly a more brown, mountain style recoloring as well. Tons of possibilities.

I agree with you, Matt, but (if I remember from the ice caves thread) I think Robby prefers the stylized blue ice rather than the more whitish look.

I am about to use the normal canyons in my Evernight game (along with the Hilltop Encounter). But I thought of the Ice Caverns as I was Savaging the Scarred Lands, and thought about doing some encounters in Albadia - the frozen north.

I'm thinking about taking up one of the more sci-fi mini games, so that I can use some of this scenery collection that I've built. Although I'm hoping that SW's Necropolis will be as good as advertised and will have a good minis game along with - between that and the minis game of Rippers, I could probably use a lot of my terrain, and that would be something my group would do (being familiar with the rules).



Oh, and I do like the stylized blue better. White is so ... white. Heck, I could just fold unprinted cardstock to get that.

Looks good Robby, but I'd have to tone down the blue a little too!

Course, I wouldn't go with just white though, that'd be, well, too white!

Conaill - the black is a little washed out. I adjusted it with levels instead, and the black comes out a little darker, and more clearly defined, although it still lightens a bit.


Skunkape - I'm pretty sure under Denny's guidelines this most definitely wouldn't qualify as a kitbash. Maybe one side piece and one top, but not if I modified the whole Canyons file (which I'm going to do).

However, I think that I could modify Skull Coves mountains to use this format, and create tops from both Skull Cove and from the new Encounter Set. I could modify the color of the Canyon sides to be sand and then add in the tops from Arena Works for sand dunes. Add in the Ice Caves, and bundle them all together and you have a terrain pack that Denny & Co could (theoretically) sell.
