I don't know if you'd call them fiddly but the masts on the Maiden were a pain in the ass...

I remember the top of the mast and the crossarms gave me the most trouble on the Maiden. Everything else wasn't to bad. Course, I didn't build the cannons as they haven't been invented in my game!

There are a couple of other pieces in the different sets that give me a little trouble, but it's mostly because they're smaller and of course, I've got over 40 eyes. Bright light and reading glasses work best for me!

Oh and lots of patience!

Well, I'm not talking reading here, just seeing!

Was surprised at how well a friend of mine and my model building effort went last night. We went on a building spree, just props, no walls or floors or anything like that and amazingly enough, even the smaller items weren't as hard as I expected them to be.

We were mostly building Inns & Pubs parts, but I was surprised at how easily we were putting the chairs together and such. Course, the chairs are pretty easy models to do, but...

He and I are going to try and do this on a regular basis. Partly I think he really likes us using minis when I'm running, so who am I to complain about the help when offered?

You could replace a fiddly paper tube with some plastic tubing, which you'd paint (though that'd ruin the idea of a paper model)

I wonder whether the little shuttlecraft is a good demo, as it's fairly fiddly to get right, and it might scare off people as being too, yes, fiddly to assemble.

The R36 was the first paper model I tried, and it was a bit daunting for me, as I was a complete newbie. Lots of cutting, folding, reverse scoring, hard to visualize when unfolded, and it was hard to get right on the first try. Of course, I made a lot of newbie mistakes while building it, but it still wasn't easy in the first place. It's still quite a bit on the unfinished side...

Okay, low dpi print out instructions with no nearby computer weren't a great idea for interpreting the photos either.

It's a great demo showing what WorldWorks is capable of in model and build quality, but I doubt it's a model for the total newbie. However, were I a potential WorldWorks customer, I'd rather see a demo model which is difficult to build, but impressive, than a simple "newbie friendly" model which doesn't reflect as well on the company who made it.

Actually, even though it remains unfinished to this day, I was impressed enough with the R36 and the potential for cardstock modelling that I soon went out and bought SoM, FL, and FL:Retrofit. Then, a number of expensive trips to Staples and a few months later, I must concede that I'm a true addict. (Two reams of cardstock, four rolls of tape, a new ink cart and a clear binder for $70? Ow, that was supposed to be a quick, cheap trip...)

As to 'fiddly bits', my secret friend is double sided 'photo safe' scotch tape. A bit expensive ($2 a roll), but magical. Magical! I used to use superglue for stubborn or difficult builds, but I find myself more often turning to the tape when things take a turn for the worst, or I need a quick repair.
