Hello to all, I hope everyone had a safe and happy time with thier friends and family for Christmas. I got the new DnD card game for Christmas, Three-Dragon Ante. It looks cool so far but I want to take it one step further. You bet on each round with gold and I want to find gold pieces to use with the game. Anyone have any ideas where I could find some on line. It takes 50 per player and up to six players. Something about the 1" to 1.5" round would be cool. Just thought I would ask, you guys seem to know where to find anything. Thanks and have a Happy New Year. |

This is a great game that can be played by itself or within a Dnd game using your characters skills like bluffing. However, unlike the rulebook, I would suggest opposing skill checks. I have played this game for about a month or more including over Christmas Day and yesterday. 2,3 and four player games. Some suggestions: Unless you want a really long game, I would suggest lowering the gold limit to 25 gp for a two player game. 50 gp can make the game go on for over an hour to two hours. 25 seems to be good number. We got to play two games in about two and half hours. One was about 30 - 40 minutes and the other over an hour. In a two player game, new players tend think that a card that states an action based on an opponent with a stronger dragon flight doesn't apply if their opponent has a weaker flight than them. Remember, it is the Opponent's strongest flight. In a two player game, it will also be the other guy, regardless of what your comparative strengths are. Of the dragons (brass?) has a power to discard itself and you get to draw a new card and play its power regardless of the strength. For some reason, each new player thinks the first power activates even if the strength of the dragon is higher than the last dragon played. I had to tell them the power only comes into effect when the dragon's strength matches or is lower than the previous card. The lights come on. Knowing when to play this card is critical. If you are playing this dragon with a high strength as flight leader you lose the strength for a possible lower card. You don't want that. So I play it when the player before me plays a lower card so the power won't come into effect. Other than that, the game is straightforward and lots of fun. For $15 and being a NON collectible card game, it makes a great gift or quick game of dragon poker FANTASY style. Here is review with pictures at rpg.net: http://www.rpg.net/reviews/archive/11/11801.phtml Ways to use the game in a RPG setting beyond what the rulebooks suggests: http://www.wizards.com/default.asp?x=dnd/ebsh/20051212a Also, a really informative article how the game developed. If you are interested in reading about how a game is conceived, play tested and developed, I recommend this 3 part piece: http://www.wizards.com/default.asp?x=dnd/dd/20051118a Having gold pieces would be great. We use poker chips. I suggested that one day we should play with real money at one penny = one gold piece, nickel = five gps, etc. Hey, for a starting 50 cent hoard, it could be light gambling game. hehehe. |
