Well, I downloaded Skype, and now have a headset, so that much is ready... And now my Ego (who likes being heard) and my Superego (who hates anime) are having an argument. My Id just wants them both to shut up, so he can get back to scheming how to take over the world... (there is a reason I play games like Alpha Centauri.) Given that this is a local anime group I doubt that anyoone outside of northern New England will ever hear what is produced anyway. By the way, did you ever notice that the actor for most villains tends to be a good deal older than the ones for the heroes? I feel downright ancient around some of these people. The Auld Grump |

Well, it looks like I am indeed the RPG coordinator for Port Con Maine. The head is still trying to talk me into dubbing a villain or two, I rather suspect that my one of friends/players who acts as the board game coordinator set me up for this. The strange thing is that he is not a big fan of anime either, but thinks that I should do it anyway. 
Then again he once paid my way into Lost in Space just to see how I would react to that, umm, valuable source of fertilizer. (In vengeance for my insistance that he watch Wing Commander, which was my vengeance for Mission to Mars, which was his vengeance for...  )

Well, went to my first meeting as RPG coordinator, passing through the anime shop to do so... lt smells much like a game store... (One of the items that was put in the swag bags last year was some anime soap, but it seems that the hint was not taken. ) No further mention of dubbing, so I may have dodged the bullet.
Just as well, I went to a birthday party after the meeting (a friend in my folk music circle was celebrating his 60th), where there are people who have really good voices. (Including no fewer than three ministers of various faiths.) If I ever need some of my vocal ego deflated all I have to do is listen to Reverend Petry singing 'Over and Under the Ground'. He also demonstrated that 'Amazing Grace' can be sung to the tune of 'House of the Rising Sun' and vice versa... (He's a Unitarian/Universalist minister, fun to argue with.) The Auld Grump |

You guys have discovered meter, which is a count of the number of syllables in each line of each verse. Any two songs with an 8.6.8.6 meter, of which Amazing Grace and House of the Rising Sun are examples, can be swapped out. Old hymnbooks (we're talking about 50-100 years old or so) used to have the meter listed and there would be a metrical index in the back of the hymnbook. It helps that they didn't used to have a lot of bridges or time changes, so all the verses were the same. Once you knew that popular music and hymns used the same metrical structure, it was possible to make some pretty humorous substitutions whenever things got boring.
