I can't believe that I haven't thought of this before.... Has anyone ever used one of those Self Stick Bulletin Board from 3M as the base for their master board? This is what I am taking about: http://www.buyonlinenow.com/viewproduct ... tc=y&qty=1 I was thinking that you could just glue it to a piece of foam core and you could stick your chunky dungeon pieces to it rather than the velcro thing. It might be a bit more expensive, but I bet it would work really well. It comes in 18" X 23" sheets so you would need two to cover one master board, but you could use it for cave works, gothic, and chunky. (and hopefully mini-chunk -- I've got my finger poised over the add to the cart button for mini! I just can't wait!) Another plus is that you could create a larger master board by creatively gluing the piece of self stick across the joins in the master board. Has anyone tried something like this? |

What would you use for an adhesive in the pieces themselves? That board is designed for Post-Its. |

It seems like it should work -- I just stuck a small box (about 4 oz) to the one on my office wall and its holding. My only concern is that the board will lose its tackyness over a short time. |

Dust is my concern also, but I think I have convinced myself to give it a try. I haven't built anything with Velcro yet, so the investment is easy. I just have to spend a little coin. If it doesn't hold up, I can always fall back to Velcro. |

Success! (Well sort of) The mat seems to hold things down pretty well, but not nearly as well as the velcro method does. So far the down side seems to be that you have to press the base of the dungeon piece down to get it to stick firmly, but that doesn't seem to be too much of a hassle. It did not survive the shake test, but I was able to tilt it on its side without any damage and it does survive some pretty rough handling. I also carried it up stairs to take picture of it. One advantage is that you could mount each piece of the master board on its own foam core piece so they could be placed down in any order. You could customize the master board for each build. This could work really well with Gothic, but it should work for caveworks and others too. I can understand the shake test. For one, foam core isn't exactly light, and here at work, the board we have made of that stuff has a hard time holding up regular paper when handled roughly. But that was a good, if not excellent, attempt to find another method. Applauds |

Looks good! I wouldn't worry about a "shake test". As long as it withstands someone bumping into the table then I'd call it a success. |
