Well, according to : ape ( P ) Pronunciation Key (p) n. 1a) Any of various large, tailless Old World primates of the family Pongidae, including the chimpanzee, gorilla, gibbon, and orangutan. 1b) A monkey. 2) A mimic or imitator. 3) Informal. A clumsy or boorish person. So, technically, an ape is a monkey, so it can have a tail or not. Anyway, I was thinking more along the lines of Planet of the Apes, and the Apes in Judge Dredds world
