I will not buy a PDF model that prevents kitbashing. So many times a simple modification can make the set or model much more useful, for my purposes at least.

This seems like an interesting idea and I know that some people kitbashed real companies into ads for the Mall in order to add realism. WWG getting paid for it would be a good thing for all around.

Detering at least some people could help. If this could be implemented without excessive cost to WWG/additional hoops for the buyer to just through it seems like the best approach I have seen mentioned.

Right, Talae; I don't mean to sound like a killjoy here - as i said previously in the thread, I like the watermarking method because, while it causes no hardship to honest users, it makes a lot of people think twice when they lose anonymity in filesharing. I guess I'm just playing devil's advocate in pointing out that there's no perfect solution (I sure don't have one, anyway).

And I think the internal ad space is a capital(ist) idea!

It would make a nice advertising revenue stream for WWG, except for the following:


Hypothetical situation:

Company A buys advertising space for $1.00 a download. Then company A either goes OoB or they cancel the contact, then they get free advertising with every download, or it becomes a wasted space if the company is POOF (gone).

And how to you handle changing advertisers... then there would be an update and downloads and should company B who hasn't changed, have to pay for redownloads and how do you track that... etc.

I do love this idea and would be awesome to see the hurtles overcome and make it real.

I think it's a matter of convincing Company A that the deal is worth $XXX flat fee per ad per set. That way WWG is not on the hook if A cancels/crashes the day after the set comes out. Comp. A is gambling that the set will do well enough to recoup the investment (but with these products it's not much of a gamble).

I can't stand ads either. They are as annoying as robo calls.

I think what we're talking about here is stuff that already exists in-set (Mayhem already has posters, billboards, etc.) - the idea is to make these existing elements profitable by selling them as actual ads instead of making up products/companies for fake ads. I, for one, think it would add another touch of realism to games - plus it would increase WWG's revenue.
