I was wondering to myself... and thought I'd wonder here instead How do the different WWG sets compare? Don't get me wrong, I love the sets, but I wanted to open a general discussion over how the sets compare.

I look at the photos of what the Legend of Skull Cove set contains, and it looks to be packed full of variety... with so much you can do with the set it is a complete package that you couldn't do without if you wanted a pirate/island. From the look of it, I guess the equivalent modern set to Skull Cove would be all the current Mayhem sets combined.

Then I look at PCON and there isn't as much. Granted, the possibilities are amazing and there are plenty of cool things you can do with the set... but there seems to be less variety in a way. It is very focused, and does a great job at that, but it is a highly detailed industrial interior, not a whole island.

Mars Station was closer to the older sets in that it seemed to contain a more complete set for mars, since it had the modular buildings as well as all the canyons, etc.

When I look at Harbormaster I can't help but feel that it is a very small set. The building is cool, and it has many nice touches, but it's just one building... and seem to have more limited use for me at least.

So is there any pattern for what goes into a set? Do the older sets contain more of a complete package, and the way forward is much smaller, more detailed models?

Once again... no offence intended... I really like all of the sets I bought... I'm just wondering out loud and hoping to start a discussion

Actually, the Maiden was an easy set for me (and my first) because it offers direction: it tells you what to build first, and how much of everything you should be building, up until the very end, when you're left alone with a bunch of props (which I never finished, actually), but by then you have a majestic ship. As for complexity, the bow was hellish and the rigging is very you're-on-your-own, but it's really not as bad as it looks. It remains my favorite set.

Skull Cove was my second set, and it's just too random. You get all sorts of useful bits, but absolutely no feeling of how far along you are. The actual building steps are rather random, as well. Take foliage for example: you literally have to go cutting the grass as you feel. There is rather little actual complexity involved, however.

The Interior Works combo came next. Simple, very simple, as there is next to no 3D to them, but it just doesn't feel like I'm building a set. More like a whole bunch of separate, interchangeable props. Good investment, though. (complexity goes up if you want to build the beds and fireplace the way I did, but still)

I am currently working on CWU. The cranking gears are atrocious to build (my way, anyway) but other than that it's a surprisingly easy set. Having both interiors and exteriors forces you to handle many different techniques, and there is much foam core involved, but I wouldn't say it's hard. Of course, I've gotten better by now.
