The January Challenge : I wanted to do something a little bit different this Challenge and make it a bit of a contest.... I want to keep it simple and fun... here's how I see it working. I'll define a theme... you build around that theme and post pics, along with a brief paragraph or so about your build and bashes... I'll post a poll at the end of January with all the entrants and let the general public vote on a 'winner'. Simple.

Theme : 4 tile layout. (a tile being 7x7) any configuration 2x2, 1x4 or anything in between. nothing larger than 14x14 in size... you may build smaller if you choose.
Set : Any WWG set.
Bashing : Allowed. (Please try and keep it to WWG textures with very little orginal textures. I want to see what we can build with the WWG sets more that having a scratch build challenge.)
Deadline : End of January 2006

is the theme a 4 tile layout with any set, or is the theme going to be something else (Like, "A Space Station")?

The theme is a 4 tile layout of any set you choose. A tile being 7x7. so a 7x28 layout or a 14x14 layout will fit the theme. I used the term Theme loosely for the challenge to allow anyone who owns any set the chance to tackle the challenge. 4 tiles helps keep the challenge small and do able for most of us, and keeps bigger is better from winning the day, but is not too small to not allow some creativity room to work . Plus I really want to see what gets built by the creative minds on this board, and steal it for my own use ....hahahahaha....(evil laugh) since the 'Public' votes I get to build also

Ok, I have thought this over. I would like to keep the floor tiles in a standard format so the base needs to be a factor of a standard floor tile. 7x7, 7x 14, 7x21, 14x14, 21x21.... The idea being that you could place these builds in a larger layout.

Cubic size. I like the cubic size idea that Conaill suggested. 1200 cubic inches is a good starting place, it may prove to be larger space than I have intended, but. after this challenge, I'll review the feedback and see how it fits, so to speak. Each elevation change should be around 3" high. When measuring your total space just measure the floor space used for each level x 3. example a 14x14 floor tile with one 7x7 two story building with a flat roof would be .... 14x14x3 = 588 , 7x7x3 = 147 , the first floor is included in the 14x14 measurement, but you need to count the roof space if it is used to game on. (example: a flat roof used to game on vs a pitched roof not used to game on.) or a total of 735 cubic inches.

as far as the standard tile layout.... space ships would not have to fit to that requirement... would make it hard to build a nice first flight build. My mind was on an 'out door' setting, to keep the standard tile layout.

So, lets see. For the math impaird like me, that means:

14 wide x 14 wide x 6 high = 1176 cubic inches.

If you want to go higher:

10 wide x 10 wide x 12 high = 1200 cubic inches

Questions:

- Is this just a terrain build, or can we include minis as part of the pictures?

- Can we use other "friendly" terrain (ie, Mel's stuff) as additions?

Yes, i already tossed it...... lol didn't think of it , but yes I could have made milllions with the proof of water on Mars.
