Post subject: | How did you find WWG? |
From reading other posts here, it occurred to me that a fun read would be a thread detailing how all of us actually found our way to WWG. I hope that the information will not only be fun to read, but might be useful to Denny in future marketing. Of course, the problem I hit on is that we can't mention competing sites, so if you do share (please do) then be careful how you word your post. I am hoping that mentioning names will be okay, but not linking them. If that is not okay, I can edit my post... just let me know. How did I find WWG? For me, I had previously looked at a few options like Hirst Arts and Microtactix after seeing both of their stands at GenCon Indy 2004. As GenCon Indy 2005 approached, I had joined the Mongoose Infantry Demo Team and was signed up to run the new Gangs of Mega-City One. Realizing I had four weeks to prepare, and hadn't painted a miniature in years, let alone attempted terrain, I searched for easier options. Right around that time, Streets of Mayhem had just been released and I found it over at RPGNow while looking at the only buildings available at the time, the Twilight ones. I bought both sets and got to work on building. I was amazed at how good it looked, and how easy it was to print and assemble, but the buildings were a little disappointing on the WWG streets. The quality wasn't as good, and the scale was odd. Nevertheless, it did the job. After seeing the quality of WWG, I joined this forum and started posting asking for buildings. Some of the photos for SoM showed a building in the background (can still be seen in the promo photos) with grafitti on the side, and I really wanted to use those buildings instead of the other, inferior ones. It was not meant to be so I used what I had. I received a lot of good comments about the street tiles, and still do, though now I have some WWG buildings to make it stand out even more. I always let people know where to get the best in cardstock terrain. I can't help hoping we'll one day see the buildings Denny was working on though... So what about you? How did you find WWG? I was Googling around for terrain ideas, and I stumbled across WWG at RPGNow. I joined the forum in the early days, but barely posted at all. I fell out for a while, but came back in March '05 with a vengeance! ![]() |

I found Chunky Dungeons pre-print on an online retailer while looking for 3D terrain and have been around ever since. I, also, am a HirstArts user and was a Microtactix user. Once I found WWG, MT just seemed...well, hate to be rude, but amateur. |

I noticed an add on RPGNow for Castles and Keeps, and followed it to back to WorldWorks (ironically, I was browsing Microtactix products at the time). This was shortly before Skull Cove was released. I recall that there was some kind of contest that had recently ended, and I loved the pictures that were posted from it. I decided to lurk on the forum to find out more about these sets. Soon after, the promo-shots for Skull Cove were posted, and I decided that I had to buy it. |

I went googling for SciFi images to fill out my campaign background. Exploding_Youth's gallery of photos came up, which led me on to the FL set of models. Love at first sight! |

My gaming group had invested a lot of money in Dwarven Forge products. Plus, since we also play Warhammer, we have need of a lot of terrain at times. Dwarven Forge led me to Hirst Arts, which was beautiful but seemed like way too much work. Then I found a link to World Works Games. I was completely stunned by The Maiden and Skull Cove and I checked around, DLed some of the free samples and was immediately impressed. Then I completely forgot about it for about 6 months. Going through files on my computer, I realized I still had PDF's, and that reminded me of the site. I found WWG again, and started ordering kits that seemed appropriate. I still haven't built a lot of it, but everything I do never fails to impress the group when I pull it out. I'm currently teasing them with a half-built Maiden that just sits near the gaming setup where we play our sea-faring campaign. |

I've been aware of WWG for just over a month. Cthulhu told me to come here, sort of. I learned of the upcoming HorrorClix game, and was hooked on it when I saw the colossal scale Cthulhu figure. I've played HeroClix with a friend, and have always been frustrated by the boring flatness of the existing maps: "You're on top of the Daily Planet building now!" "Uh, no, actually I just crossed a thick line on this map..." I resolved that if I was going to play Clix, I would do it on some interesting terrain. Once I Googled around and found Urban Mayhem, I knew I was destined to become a cardstock modeler. And I will, as soon as my UHU office pens (number 99589, baby!) arrive in the mail... -JDF |
