Hi folks, 20+ year gaming veteran, but new to Worldworks and the forums here. I had a quick question for those of you who have been using the product for a while: Is it easy to leave sections off of the gaming table and slowly "reveal" them to the players as they advance through a particular adventure ? In other words, say I have the Gothic Dungeon set up, and I only want the players to see a certain area of the dungeon, are Worldworks models designed to allow you to add sections as the characters advance ? Hi, Flakpanzer! Welcome aboard! The quickest way is to lay blank pieces of paper over the already built dungeon, and lift them off as the PCs traverse the dungeon. The drawback to this is that the players still know how big the dungeon is, and it's easy to bump or blow the paper off. The better way (IMHO) takes a little time during game, but feels a bit more suspenseful. Basically, build the dungeon as they move along. Have it planned out ahead of time, but only put the pieces on the table as the PCs see them. Let us know how it goes! |

Sure. Many of the newer sets are designed with modularity in mind (Chunky Dungeons), and I don't see how the older sets would prevent you from creating a modular layout. It all comes down to how you put everything together. Check out the to see what others have done. |

Or, if you want an even more advanced method, First Light (the sci-fi space ship) is designed with top hulls, which can be removed one room or corridor at a time. A similar technology could be kitbashed for other settings such as Gothic. |

Or you can do what I've done to some respect. I pasted the tiles on the foamcore, cut them out as individual tiles, and when I want to build a dungeon, I secure the tiles together that make one room (if it's bigger than one tile), and I can easily just set the other pre-built tiles under the table until we reveal the next section. I've even printed out multiple tiles to do this with. Of course, it's a lot of work to secure individual tiles together and keep the room format together while moving the unrevealed rooms around, but I do everything the hard way. Maybe, when I have time and a camera at a game, I'll show you what I mean. Welcome to the boards, btw! |
