Post subject: | WorldWorks at Second Life: Heads up! |
As part of our ongoing efforts to engage, support and grow the WorldWorks community at large we will be taking steps to build our presence in 'Second Life'. For those of you that don't know Second Life is a MMOE (Massive Multiplayer Online Environment) which offers users the chance to explore, build and create their very own virtual world and subcultures. It is not confined to a specific set of rules like World of Warcraft but rather allows users to create their own fantasies. It's a very straight forward virtual world that has been growing leaps and bounds over the past 3 years and shows no signs of slowing down. Many companies are now jumping onboard to show their virtual presence in this “Second Life". WorldWorks will be using Second Life to showcase our model sets in full 3-D so that you can take a virtual walk down the streets of Mayhem or a stroll through CastleWorks Ultimate courtyards (along with our other sets). Users can then buy our products through a web portal linking to the WorldWorks store. We will also be using it as a place to hold virtual conferences and other online events. This is an ambitious project which will take some time to realize but I thought I would give you guys the heads up so that you can familiarize yourselves with the world of Second Life. And for those of you worried about this sapping all of my time please know that I have someone helping me make this all possible. We may even be recruiting from within the community to help us with the construction process (free models for everyone who gets involved ![]() You can download a free trial version of Second Life here: http://secondlife.com/ .Build your avatar and then take a running leap and fly around like superman to explore this incredible and growing world. WorldWorks will be there...once we buy some land and start building that is. Keep your eyes on this thread for any updates on our progress. |

While tempted to download the free play, I think I'll pass till the WW's stuff is up. My roomate did download the game and checked it out so I know how it looks, and even seen a few vids that people have recorded. Best of luck on this new venture, hope it pans out for you. |

I just wanted to mention, Denny and Pall, that when you're ready to take a stab at building, you should go to the Ivory Tower of Primitives (search for Ivory Tower and you'll see it). It has a fantastic tutorial with all the basics you need to know to manipulate and build with prims. I think it's the best one out there that'll get you up and running in no time at all. Also, I've found that the Ivory Tower sandbox is fairly empty, so you can build (relatively) lag-free. Just logged in this afternoon, and it's certainly not like riding a bike. I'd forgotten how... strange... the controls are. |

Does anyone know if you can import 3d images into SL easily or do they have to be built within the program? I'm getting semi-handy with SketchUp and was thinking that it would be great if I would transplant content from one program to another. Lord Abaddon of Wormwood |
