Ok,

I have purchased castleworks ultimate, villiage works, interior works (pubs and Inns) and I have been able to extract all the graphics from the pdfs using various tools.

I am desperately trying to get a ruined fantasy set produced for use in Mordheim.

I need a bit of help.

1.) although I have all the software, I need some links to how-to's for making things look burnt/destroyed. (preferably with the Gimp although I do have photoshop)

2.) layouts for making folds for buildings with interior and exterior art.

This is being done because I need a fairly large number of ruined mordheim buildings. I would normally pay for this to be done but the one individual who I hoped would kit bash it is not in too good a physical condition.

Any guidence would be appreciated.

I will send my finished materials off to Denny in case he wants them or if someone else does, but for the time being I need some guidence on the techniques on getting this done.

I am willing to buy what ever sets are recomended.

Well, the one answer you don't want to hear is...wait. I know that's not any help.

There is a new staff member just recently come on board, and his very first project is going to be "ruinworks"...taking various fantasy buildings and such and turning them into ruins, more or less exactly along the lines of what you want.

...but I don't know how soon it will actually be ready. It's only scarcely started, if that.


A basic form of ruining can be done by building the model normally (such as a CWU interior building), and then cutting the walls down in odd angles and making liberal use of a dark marker.

You can hammer out a very basic, simple interior for VillageWorks buildings by printing a second, mirrored copy of the outer walls and downscaling them about 3% or so. This should let you line up the walls, doors, and so forth rather closely. Plunk some Pubs & Inns flooring down in the middle and you're good to go....or in this case, to start ruining from there.

Again, liberal use of a black marker (ever so useful for edging) and printing out lots of flames (CaveWorks has a campfire, DungeonWorks Classic has a flaming torch, Bits of Mayhem (a modern set) has whole lines of flames) can make burning roofs.

I second what Andorax said. I've made a few ruined buildings that way, it and it works well. I use brown, gray and black markers for the edging along the ruins and it looks pretty good.

I don't recall the 3% thing, but I'll have to try that. What I've done is print the same wall mirrored at normal size(or use Pubs & Inns interior walls, which look good with VW) but then trim a tad extra off the edges when cutting them, so they'll fit on the inside.
