Even though the players in our games never use them, I put "Gotta have 'em", because they make great NPCs! [edit] Typo fixed, and immortalized in Polycarp's comment below.... ![]() [edit] Oh, for the love of.... |

That makes two of us. I'd rather have home-grown player made characters and alter the game to fit them. |

I'm in the middle, mostly I have no use for them as I'm commited while GM/DMing to making my own game, adventures and worlds, but sometimes it's nice to have pregens written up for the unexpected, but then I play games where the unexpected happens all the time ![]() |

I put down Gotta Have 'Em for exactly the two reasons Frank just enumerated. Not to use as player characters, but because they might come in handy for NPCs and because they might help me better determine the level of characters who should be using the adventure. |

I answered 'No, but it is nice to have them just incase (guest players)' entry because of the fact that I use my own homebrew races in my own homebrew world, and any published adventure that I buy gets converted to my world, setting, etc. But it's nice to have them for referrence. I've been thinking about this thread, and I've come to the conclusion that role playing in general, more than any other type of game I've ever played, is more often changed or tinkered with than any other type of game out there. I wonder if anybody, anywhere actually plays their chosen game as written. 30 years ago, when I started introducing D&D to my friends, the combat system was "too much" for them. So I streamlined it. The races and professions and special skills and abilities were okay, but the magic system was too involved, so I streamlined that too. I've gone from the white boxed rules thru and including 3.5 and I've never, not once, played it as written. And my friends, who play super heroes and cyber punk and dozens of other rpg types of games probably never play it as-is either. Yet I almost always play miniatures games as written. If there is something minor I don't care for, I live with it. If it's a major sticking point, I move on to other sets of rules to see if they are more to my liking. Funny, I never really thought about that until this thread. ![]() I wonder if others feel the same way? |

I don't really play RPG's anymore, but if I did, I would like to see the pre-gens. It's great for a pickup game, but it also helps provide more information on the adventure and types of characters it's intended for. Plus, as others have mentioned, they are great as NPC's. Arabin |
