Please do revive the gaming group. 3D terrain, just can't be beat and it will knock the socks off of your group (I still wake up with a warm glow thinking of my VW adventure where a gamer of mine was heard to remark "I can't believe you kept this a secret, if I was going to run the best adventure in the world, I would be shouting it from the rooftops!

hey are all the tiles lined??

does the module come with unlined tiles, and modular Hill risers? the description page makes no mention of it. i assume its all lined.

That millrace just may need to make an appearance in several Battletech games.

All of the tiles in DF1 have a 1" grid, for two reasons. One, it's designed for D&D, which uses a 1" grid. Two, the models are also an expansion to the VillageWorks set, which has all 1" grids.

The ground textures I had to work with all had grid lines, and would take a long while to get rid of. Not impossible, just very time consuming.

I just bought it and I would like to add that not everyone that purchases the modules plays D&D.

You know there is a way to add layers to pdf's. Why not just add a layer for lines that can be turned off. Then you can pack 1", 1.5" and hex all into the same pdf and make everyone happy.

Other than that complaint (my fault for not liking D&D I guess) it is a nice set!

The problem is that there are no unlined tiles for villageworks... He would have had to edit them out by hand, quite a laborious and boring process.

I'm not saying its fun. I'm just stating that with Adobe pdf there is that option. This way everyone gets what they want! without WWG having to put 2-3+ of the same design only with different grids.

Lets take this release. If they would take the time to do it WWG would have a larger audeince. You could print it out gridless, 1" for the D&D fans, 1.5" for the click fans, Hex for GURPS and Classic Battletech Fans. Same release, same amount of pdf's, larger fan base now reached.

This is a positive critisism. I don't play anything with 1" grids yet I always come back and purchase more products (some that I don't even print out). If they want the original Village works without the grids I have it photoshped out somewhere on my computer.

WWG has made huge leaps and bounds since I first started, this is the next logical step in my opinion.

Just curious how this one is going. Since it's been a month from this post AND I'm dying of curiosity.

Dinas Ffordd town is the focal point of our new campaign. The guys will get to encounter WWG modules, WWG terrain and D&D 3.5 all for the first time (The WWG stuff should compensate for any challenges that 3.5 presents )
Of course, this all depends on us finishing the current campaign - due to summer hols here, the party has been idling outside the door to the final confrontation since before Xmas

I'm planning to roll in Something Below (out side DF) and Missing Persons (based around the DF cathedral) as we go along (assumgin I can keep up with the builds as well as the GM'ing), plus a chain of home grown adventures I've been working on for some time. But for starters, they'll just be adventuring around DF for a couple of levels to get them familiar and, more importantly, to the place before the DF1 module kicks in. Having a bit more material on the locals will be a great help

I'm thinking of picking this up for a game of 4th Edition D&D I'm going to be running in the near future. Trouble is, I haven't played D&D since before anyone ever talked about "editions" so my arcane lore is a little rusty.

Is it possible to use the adventure as a 4th edition D&D adventure? Could I just swap out the monsters and substitute in different ones, or is there more to it than that?

Still haven't picked up the rules yet, but when I found out I would be running stuff I was psyched to come here and see what might work well as an adventure...

Just about any adventure can be adapted. 4th edition adaptation is a bit tricky in *some* cases, because there was a philosophy change...4E emphasises a general trend to more opponents.

That said, it's still a very viable option, and a greaty way to run an adventure. The various D20 adventures here at Worldworks all have full terrain support so you can actually build the settings of each encounter, and standees to represent the opponents (and if 4E wants twice as many...you just print the extras). So while it would take some work to adapt, it's readily possible, and DF1 should make for a fun adventure.

Tinybrain, I would strongly suggest you pick up the rules before you decide what adventure you want to run. This module is Great, however 4E is VERY different then any version of D&D before it.
Not to say that the module couldn't be converted, just a heads up that it will take a bit of work.

Of course if you are thinking about picking this up for the terrain, then by all means do.... Things like gallows never change no matter what game rules you are using.

Sorry, but as a Welsh speaker, everytime I see "Dinas Ffordd" it just makes me laugh

How does it translate? My knowledge of Cymric is just about nil.

Granted my Welsh is next to nil. I learned a few words from my Grandmother, who learned them from her Grandmother.

Checking "translators" I get a few different results. One of them which comes out as 'City Streets'

"Dinas Ffordd" translates from Welsh to "Road City"

Most translators have difficulty with languages such as Welsh because they do a strict literal translation and not a grammatical translation.

In Welsh, you would descriebe an object by first giving the object, and then the description. e,g, to say "White House" you would say "Ty Gwyn" (House White),
"Green House" would be "Ty Gwyrdd" etc.

So, Dinas Ffordd = Road (Ffordd) City (Dinas)

"City Streets" should be translated as "Strydoedd y Dinas" or, colloquially, you might get away with "Ffordd Dinas".

In reality, "Dinas Ffordd" is a simple grammatical error which 99.9% of people wouldn't notice, or even care about. Still, it made me laugh
