Dear Everyone, I am not sure this is a taboo topic. So if I am out of line I appologize and I will never ask a question like this again. I am so impressed with the idea of World Works. I have been molding and trying to sculp my own buildings and terrain for awhile. I new there had to be an easier and cheaper way. I finally found world works. Though, I haven't gotten a chance to make anything yet, I have already downloaded village works. What I am wondering is, are there any other companies that make 3-D card terrain other than World Works. Maybe for different genres? I am sure that World Works is at the top and I will be a loyal customer. I just want to explore my horizons. Thanks, -Jon |

Its ok...NO ONE PANIC! I'll have Mr.Klein tortured when I get around to it...Just kidding. Contrary to what some people might think about me I don't mind the competition or talking about them for that matter. Competition is healthy and in the end it drives us all to produce a better product. The customer always wins in the end. To name just a few: www.microtactix.com One of the most prolific RPG paper foldup creators who have been around the block for a few years now. Great stuff, unique style and a wide range of products. www.fantasycutouts.com Very cool illustrative designs with a very distinct style all his own. www.erichotz.com/whitewash.html Nice western themed paper model sets. (Worldworks is working on our very own Western themed sets...just so you know ![]() As the WorldWorks line of model sets expands into new genres I hope fulfill the needs of a more diverse crowd of gamers. The best really is yet to come! Denny |

While Denny beats Mr. Klien senseless, I'll add my two cents.. ![]() I own quite a few sets of cardstock terrain, including many of Microtactix's sets. I was very satisfied by what I have bought from them. (I am still very satisfied by Dirt Cheep Cityscapes when I need to get my Heroclix jones on) But comparatively, I enjoy building Denny's models far more. If I compare putting together two dungeons, one Dungeonworks and the other Dirt Cheep Dungeons or Heroic Dungeons, then I'm afraid Dungeonworks wins out, though I do enjoy Microtactix's products. DCD is a nice product, but the blocky wall sections are senselessly hard to put together compared to the more elegantly designed Dungeonworks set. And if you're using Caveworks, or Castles and Keeps, (and soon the revamped Dungeonworks) being able to use the Clip-it system to hold the walls together adds a level of stability that you could only get with DCD by pretty much glueing the walls down to the floor tiles. All in all, though Microtactix makes a fine product, make mine Worldworks any day. |

Re: the discussion between Worldworks and Mircotactix & other models: Beyond the differences in how the models are constructed (which I agree, Worldworks models are not only easier but mor enjoyable), there is a significant differences between how the models are packaged and purchased. Worldworks cpme as complete sets, and are very versatile and customizable. Microtactix sets tend to come in smaller packages of only a few models, especially the fanatsy village sets, and are not customizable as are Denny's. There are some interesting models that are more unique than what can easily be made with Worldworks models, but most are far less realistic and interesting than Worldworks. Dungeonworks is similarly more versatile and quicker to construct, but again there are some nice touches to the MIcrotactix line (the sewers setting and such) that can't be as easily replicated as with Dungeonworks. The new Dirt Cheep keep set has nicer walls for a castle than Castleworks, IMHO. However, niether castleworks nor DCK has a really impressive keep or castle buildings. CW's manor house is a great model, and very enjoyable to fit together, but far from the impressive stone keep one thinks of in a typical fantasy castle (sorry, Denny!). DCK stone keep is a blocky, ugly and unrealistic monolith that was at least as difficult to constuct as CWs manor house, and not nearly as interesting or pretty. Interior works is far superior to any of the interior sets from Microtactix, which to be fair, are very old B&W models that have not been updated. Fantasy cutouts has only a couple of models, but are very elaborate and well done, but seem intended for use in a different way (a few models used for specific settings vs. WWs potential to build entire communities and settings). I don't play anything old west, so I don't know about the other lisiting. There is one other company, Penguin Labs, who are new, and have done terrain models. The tree pack has some really nice models, but is way overpriced ($9 for 9 trees), and the terrain pack is okay from what I've seen but rather plain. I have tried to keep the idea of LandscapeWorks percolating in Denny's mind with a couple of posts, but I seem to be one of the few! I can only dream wistfully of the amazing terrain Denny would be capable of creating. I'll wait for it.... Anyway, in closing, WW models are not only easier, prettier and more versatile than any competitors, they are packaged better, making them clearly the best choice for modelers, gamers and others. (For example, I built my son a three level set, strating with CW, then a level of DW, followed by a bottom level of caveworks. I'm building my daughter a playset from Interiorworks for use with her Polly Pocket dolls. This not only gives me an excuse to build more models and make my children happy, but convinces my wife that maybe this isn't such a bad hobby after all...) Finally, please buy Worldworks models so Denny can make enough money to keep going, so someday he'll finally have time to do Landscapeworks! ;D |

I, on the other hand, play Western lots. I have probably purchased everything by all four companies listed, and even had a recent article published in Pyramid Magazine about Cardstock Buildings. The Old west set of Eric Hotz is, in my humble opinion, one of the best sets available. One of the features I really like about it is the inclusion of Floorplans for the buildings, which are all based on actual western buildings. and just remember, there is nothing that says you can't mix and match sets. |

What magazine number is that article in, Scalawag? And hey, I'd like to see Landscape Works, too. Some friends of mine took photos of real trees and made some pretty good looking 3 sided models recently. Maybe I'll post some pics the next time I game with them. |

In all honesty I havent forgotten about Landscapeworks. I started working on it but it took a back seat to other projects. I promise you it will come out in the not so distant future ![]() |

It's all Fantasy, of course, but Wizards of the Coast has their own terrain that they used to be supporting Chainmail with. Chainmail has gone by the wayside, but they still come out with a new building every month or so. The quality isn't Worldworks grade, but you can't beat the price (free). Truth be told, I have the "free downloads" of just about every company mentioned above...and have yet to spend a single dollar on anyone's stuff but Worldworks. On the other hand, I own Dungeonworks, Castleworks, Villageworks, Cavernworks and am patiently (alas, I'm on a budget) waiting for Interiorworks to go to the "full package" lot. |

I'm with Andorax, except I've bought the Interiors and no Castles (waiting for the Castle upgrade ![]() I'm also dying for Landscapeworks. So much so that I've taken to drawing (well, getting a friend to draw) overhead views of trees and boulders and whatnot just to have something to put on the map with the buildings. I tried my hand at making some 3D trees, but, well... lets just say Denny won't get any competition from me. ![]() Devon |

Wow...What a friendly group! Thanks everyone, especially to Denny who was completely honest and also provided the LINKS to other sites. I was so impressed. It still looks like World Works is in the lead as everyone is in agreement....unless they wrote that in the hopes of getting free stuff. :-X JK Thanks to you Denny, you have earned another loyal customer! -Jon |

Wait a minute! People are gettin' free stuff? Heck his stuff is Great! Love it! Wonderful! Where's my free stuff? Seriously though, I have looked at any paper model creator that I could find and have yet to find one close to the quality of Dennys'. (That is an unsolicited review. I am not getting free stuff. ;D ) besides that, this community is one of the best. No bickering and flaming just cool dudes and dudettes hanging out and chillin', not illin... (whew I think I just channeled Kid N' Play there). <slap> <slap> Ok I think I am better now. Welcome and have fun. Mr. Grimm |

Welcome to the forums, JKleinOfNJ! I've tried some of the other ones that Denny has mentioned long before WorldWorks has come out, but nothing matches WorldWorks for three simple reasons: 1) Simplicity - Denny makes quality pieces that are VERY easy to put together. 2) Versatility - the WorldWorks products are interchangeable and modifiable to the Nth degree, which is something I really look for in a product! 3) Quality - for the price you're paying, you're getting some pretty beautiful product! Professionally done, and attractive to boot - what more could you want? Cheers! |

there is one more alternative that has been overlooked but it it takes time and its quite a bit more expensive then any sort of card-built models. Check out www.Hirstarts.com Stephen |
