Check the printer before printing stuff out?

I share my Laptop with my Wife who does all her work stuff on it, and while linked to our printer prints it out too, well I sat down tonight after printing last night and forgot to check if my card was still in the printer and set it to print out a load of VW buildings, then went and sat down, and left it to do the job, and after a couple it ran out of card, and I put some more in and checked the stuff already done to find to my horror it was printed on normal paper!!!!!
ARRRRRGGGHH!!!!!!
Thankfully it was only 3 sheets into the job.

Where's the "Yep. All the friggin' time." option?

My wife uses the printer all the time, and she forgets to take out the cardstock, and then I use it and forget to put it back in.

There have been several 'discussions' about what kind of paper was left in the printer. I sometimes will remotely schedule print jobs from work during the day based on my building plans for the evening. Not fun when you come home to find out someone changed out the cardstock for normal paper.

EDIT: I also need a 'All the freakin' time' option to the poll.

I have, but rarely much.

I typically am building right by my computer/ printer and watch the sheets as they come out.

I also typically only send a sheet or two at a time. Cut one while the next prints.

I can't answer the poll as you don't have my option, I'm with Slymoon there. I've done it in the past, my printer is across my home office on a printer table for lack of better description and networked to my cable router. But I mostly only print a few sheets at a time and usually check to make sure I've got the right kind of paper in the printer.

Course, if I can ever afford the color laser I want to get, I'll have 2 trays on it, one for paper and one for cardstock, so I'll never have to worry about printing the wrong thing!

I do 99% of my printing *ahem* not at home so I have to load the printer every time. And I use the manual tray so I know what paper I'm using.

Here at home I do print occasionally and my color laser printer only takes one sheet at a time in the manual feed slot. So if I'm printing multi-page and manually I have to print each page separately. I honestly don't know why I don't load the tray when I need to do that.

At least I'm not on my own then.

How do you edit polls?
If one of the Mods could add on the All the Bloody Time option, I'd be really grateful.

Yeah, I've pulled that move a few times. Usually happens when the wife uses the printer and she swaps out the card. She's also printed things on my card as well.
I always check the first sheet to make sure its printing ok, so I can catch it before the second page prints.

I'm a semi-regular offender, although I hate it more when I leave the cardstock loaded in the printer and my son decides to print his homework. Card is much more expensive in the UK than in the US

I voted never, but only because I become paranoid after I send off the print job. While the thing is spooling, I remember to check, jump up and run to the printer, say "$&*!" or something like that, and frantically pull out the whatever is in there and put in card. If I don't get the card loaded in time, then I get an error message, have to hold buttons down for 3 seconds, pray to the Printer Gods that it resets (stupid Epson, I never have the problem with the HP), and then I get to start all over again.

I dislike printing.

DracRTC, which large format card do you use? I'm fine with 8.5x11 for most stuff, but it would be nice to print tiles onto larger card.

Its a 14 by 22 inch poster card that I found at walmart (in the school supply isle). If its not exactly 110 lb its close enought that I can't tell by touch (sorry I do not remember the name atm, took it out of the package when I got it and threw it away).

I am currently on the look out for a 110lb 24 by 36 inch card but having hell finding it. So far the only 24 by 36 I've found is poster board and I dislike the glossed side as the coating dosen't take glue well (or ink for that matter)
The main benifet I've found is that I use the gimp to open a file, copy the part (or even whole image) that I want and then place a bunch of them onto the sheet. Saves a lot of card as I can print about 50% mroe to a sheet (average)

Skunk, the problem with that is I don't live in (or near) the city. There is a print shop in Houston, TX that I may be able to get some card at but its rare for me to go out that way (I HATE cities). If I do head that way I'll be sure to stop in and check them out but unless I can find a site for them (first gotta find their name, been a while since I've been there) I'll be sticking to mostly options like the 14 by 22 card.

The print shop in Houston is the only one I know of btw, 2 hours to get to houston, and another hour (if traffic is good) to get to the shop, way too much gas for a casual trip. Next time I'm out that way I've gotta make it worth my while in card. There are two small cities (by the standards of most members on the forum that is) that are closer and may have a print shop but I doubt it, I'll check tomorrow at work.

I haven't yet forgotten the cardstock, but on a number of occasions I've put too many cardstock sheets in, and the "necxt" item that prints that was supposed to go on regular paper ends up on cardstock.

I find I am more ikely to run out of cardstock than ink, so i often do a trial-print on regukar paper to make sure resizes come out the right size... otherwise, no problems.

Ever inadvertently send 150 flyers for a school Christmas play to the same laser printer that's holding your entire stock of card?

Heh, after the game today I decided to print and build a few more items for next week.

I forgot to switch Acrobat Reader over to the color printer, and got a very nice black and white image on 20 pound stock....

Done that quite a few times recently over my castle build, as my wife does her teaching plans on our comp' aswell and always forgets to switch the printer back to print with black & colour.
