I'd like to add that ground pieces without any markings would be a plus for those of us miniature gamers that play rules that include guessing ranges. Not that any of my friends would count the squares *koffkoff* to determine range. I assume that the hex and or square markings are added after the basic piece so that there would literally be no work to adding in pieces sans markings.
In the same vein I also play standard rpgs and miniatures rules where the square (and hex for that matter) markings come in handy. To my knowledge the floor pieces from Pubs and Inns was the only set to contain both unmarked, lightly marked and heavily marked masterboard tiles. I really liked this feature of P&I. My preference, btw, was for the lightly marked pieces where I do not use the unmarked. The lighter marks are less intrusive to the visual effect of the terrain than are the heavy marks.
