Nice, and fast, riposte CCotD'

The meet was small, but a lot of fun, and I'm looking forward to the next one.

Having not met in person before, we chit-chatted a lot initially while setting up the terrain, and during the first game CCotD took a lot of photos, which was great, but it did slow things down. We ended up playing just two games which worked out well. I didn't take detailed notes so this'll be a quick overview.


Game 1
The Jackanapes (Apes) vs. The White Soled Charlies (Humans)

During this game my dice were possessed and delivered more 1's and 2's than I've seen in a long while. Things were going quite well initially, though CCotD did draw first blood. I had seven apes against his nine humans. The human Top Dog was wearing a nice shell jacket armor, which using starter weapons meant I not only had to roll high to hit in the first place, but to do any damage I needed either a 6 or a critical shot. Criticals add 2 to damage roll, so you'd think that would help me... but despite getting at least two criticals on him in this game, I always followed up with a 1-3 on the damage roll, thereby doing nothing. No damage... on a critical

I sent one gorilla around a corner to intercept his LT and a juve that were trying to flank me. My gorilla peaked over the edge of a fence, ready to leap over and charge into melee with them next round. Before I could do that, CCotD took his turn though. His LT fired off a couple of rounds at my gorilla, one missing, and hitting the terrain. I was starting to grin in anticipation. Then things turned bad for me. The little juve with his handgun fired two shots, both hitting, and both damaging, taking my gorilla out of the fight with a serious head injury (permanent effects).

Next I sent a chimp climbing up a nearby building, positioned nicely to shoot down at that juve next turn. I had the height advantage... but again, the juve got lucky with a shot and sent my chimp scampering away. The end result was I ended up with four of my seven apes injured, including my LT, and when rolling for hostages, CCotD managed to capture three of them! He confiscated all their equipment, most of which were upgrade for his gang members, but then generously let my apes go free. Basically, if he had kept them, I wouldn't have had the strength to run a rescue mission, and would have had no choice but to call the judges on him, beating him down to a more manageable size.


Game 2
The Jackanapes (Apes) vs. The White Soled Charlies (Humans) (Rematch)

I was one ape short as my gorilla with the head injury had to miss a fight. I also had to re-equip three of my guys with the small amount of funds I had available. I decided not to recruit anyone else, and after seeing how well the Shell Jacket worked, I spent most of my money on buying one for my Top Dog. This proved to be a very smart decision.

My dice were a little more friendly this time around, although I still had a couple of "roll 6, possible crit... roll another 6, crit confirmed... roll for damage... 1!"

I got really lucky this time around and managed to hit when I shot people, and thankfully a few of his gangers ran away at the first sign of trouble. The best part, for me, was when he was down to five gangers left (1 injured, three ran away). One of my chimps shot that plucky juve from the last game (the one who took out two of my apes) and hurt him, but unfortunately he was only stunned. Well my LT, having a bit of a chip on his shoulder over being captured, decided to charge across the plaza, and whack that juve over the head with his club. This did the trick and took the juve out of the game. Next turn CCotD brough up a punk from his reinforcements but had to do a double move to get close. Thankfully, he was close enough, so on my turn, my LT charged again... swinging his club, and he outright killed the punk with a well placed blow to the body. Two of his buddies saw this and panicked, leaving his Top Dog alone on the turf.

Now his Top Dog was still wearing that nice jacket, and I still had crappy weapons, so the game could still go either way. I decided to rush my apes forward, forcing him to make another Will to Fight check, in the hopes that he'd roll a 1. Amazingly, that is exactly what happened, and his Top Dog ran away to join the remnants of his gang.

My apes look at each other, noticing that none of them had taken so much as a scratch, then they went back to join their injured friend and share a celebratory banana cake.

It's amazing what can happen when your dice behave well

I'm looking forward to next month, and need to decide what new terrain to add.

Working on the pics, but now have to be the "surrogate" child and do all the things that kids can't do that moms like them to do on mothers day. If that made sense.

We should coordinate terrain making so we don't overlap (at least for this ).

Damn it was fun yesterday. Can't wait till June.
