Hello, WWG people and WWG fans. I've been lurking here for a week or so, and I figured I should probably introduce myself. My name is John Thelin (The = tea, lin = flax), I'm 41, from Sweden and a lapsed gamer returning to the fold. I discovered WWG while looking for standees for my upcoming GURPS SF campaign and immediately purchased First Light, FL Retrofit and Mars Station. I'm not an utter cardboard modeling neophyte, but close enough. The only things I've built before are a mini replica of the Swedish F1 driver Ronnie Petterson's helmet and the Duey drone from the 70's SF classic Silent Running. I started playing RPGs back in 1978, and kept up with it until about the early 90s, at which point the gamer groups I associated with drifted and fell apart. Been boardgaming a Formula 1 tournament regularly for about five years, which has lead to other gaming in the last year and a sudden resurgence of RPGing at the request of my friends (most of them inexperienced RPG players). It's a bit like coming home. Now, the SF stuff available on here is great, but it's not entirely suited to the campaign I'll be running, which will be set in an alternate world where faster than light drives and some antigravity devices are invented right after WWII. The space race starts in about 1951 and we join the action in 1969, where the three main players are The Soviet Union, The US/UK and the UN as some sort of middle-man, albeit weak. I won't go into too much detail here, I'll save that for the coming web page; Space: 1969. Think Mission: Impossible/early James Bond/Harry Palmer in space. So, I'm obviously going to be doing quite a bit of kit bashing to make things fit in with ny ideas. Since my players will start out as prisoners of the Soviets, I've already made a 2x3 cell based on Room 1 in the FL set (the door is in the shorter end, and the grid is offset with half-squares on either side of the door), and I'm probably going to create a bed/sink/toilet unit to put in there. Not sure about that one yet, though - might be overkill for a room they'll leave as soon as the game starts. I'm also working on an FL dice tower. That's it for now (well, apart from various Soviet posters and insignia that are going to turn First Light into the Space Prison Bakunin, of course). Anyways, I just wanted to say thanks to WWG for creating some fantastic products and at prices that are more than reasonable too boot. I'm having great fun and my wife is happy to see me off the computer every now and again. |

Greetings TeaFlax. I think you will find a lot of us similar minded gamers and card stock mavens. I'm curious as to what Boardgame you were using for your Formula One series? Formula De? Speed Circuit? Formula One? Bolide? Das MotorsportSpiel? Motorsports? Something else? That new Space campaign sounds excellent. What are you using for inspiration for the ships? Take care and hope to see you around the forums. ~Floyd |

Hah, sounds like more fun than a barrel of monkeys. ...and damn are a barrel of monkeys fun (especially if you have a flamethrower... ![]() Eat that twisted humor, CCotD. ![]() ![]() That out of the way, welcome to the boards. I'm sure you'll find yourself at home quite quickly... well, as long as you don't get between our flamethrowers and our barrels of monkeys. You don't happen to be an animal rights activist, do you? I'm always happy to see a GURPS player! ![]() I find the models easy to work with and I tend to kitbash every product here (only because I tend to play games that are not 'normal'). Certainly hope to see more of you and I intrested in that website so when its up let us know. |
