Interesting. Of course, it doesn't help us Mac users very much. |

So, how's the Ink Saver working out? I just purchased my second refill for my HP printer, and while much less thirsty than my old Lexmark it won't take all that long for me to have spent more on the cartridges than on the printer iself... The Auld Grump |

I use a Lexmark X85 Printer/Scanner/Copier and both cartridges have a chip. They are also refillable, I get about 4-6 ink refills per cartridge. This printer also asks whether the cart is new or old everytime I replace it. I havn't noticed whether it has a problem with recognizing the ink levels yet, although it bellows out "BLACK (or COLOUR) INK CARTRIDGE IS LOW", everytime I start a print job when I'm low on ink. Speaking of carts, I need to replace mine they didn't take the last ink refill very well. I too would like to know how the Ink Saver is working out, it's always nice to save money. |

I own a Lexmark Z23. I pay around $30-$35, per cartridge, for new, OEM. I bought the color, and B&W, refill "kits" from www.inksell.com. It took a bit longer than 2-3 days to arrive, but otherwise, it is just as they promised: I successfully re-filled my color cartridge ('chipped' to show the ink level, but when refilled, this remains as "empty"; they still work, though, so no problem there), and my son immediately printed off a color map of France, for a school report. The map matched the on-screen colors, perfectly. I was very impressed with the ease, quality, and price! I paid $12 for the B&W kit (four refills), and the color kit was $18 (five refills). They sell the ink bottles without the tools, for less money: the tools are re-useable, so next time, I will only order the ink; the instructions Do NOT come in the ink-only packages, so beware of trying to save a little money -- you need the tools, and the instructions, so buy the full kit, the first time. Someone posted, somewhere, that the cartridges are only good for around five refills, before the jets become worn out, and print quality degrades. I added up the cost of nine cartridges [(4 x B&W)+(5 x Color)], then I subtracted the cost of the kits: I will save $285! Now I can afford to go wild in printing, cutting, gluing, and then... Gaming! I also printed off some towers, and wall sections, in B&W, for a different look. They look good, but I used a color floor for the tower tops, to make it look more realistic: gray stone, with brown wood flooring. I will add some color doors to the towers, also. It comes out very dark if the printer is set to "Normal" quality, but "Draft" quality gives a nice, gray look. To dress up the B&W catwalks, I'm going to apply a brown marker to them, hoping that the ink won't run, or smear. The refill Black ink, is water-proof. I may need to print off a bunch of... Something, in order to empty that OEM cartridge sooner. Cheers! |
